does anyone have thoughts on running in a rifle barrel I have done 2 of mine now and I can say the biggest thing I have noticed is a lot less effort when cleaning I honestly cannot say they are anymore accurate but they are a damn lot easier to clean
the rifle are both Military one is a no4 mk2 the other a swede m38 I fired 1 shot then cleaned the barrel with Sweets 7.62 solvent did this for 5-6 shots then fired 2 and cleaned for another 10 shots after the first few shots the barrels had a lot less noticable copper colour on the rags I always thought it was a waste of time but think from here on in all my barrels will get ran in along these lines

"running in"?

Guess that's Australian for "breaking in" just like the TV add that says "Foster" is Australian for "beer" beer

Most shooter's here have talked about breaking in the new barrels and I certainly do it. It does seem to have the biggest advantage of making clean up easier. Still seems like a barrel doesn't really get broken in until at least 100 rounds go through it.

LOL! I thought at first it was supposed to say 'Ruining a berrel'!I don't know if it has any signifigant gains, but I do it more for the fact that I've got nothing better to do!

I have never done it. I shoot as needed. If the first time out is a few rounds so be it. If it is 100 or so thats the way it is.

Hellno, it's NOT WORTH IT. When a rifle shoots like these, why mess with 'em???

Ruger No. 1B, 7mm Rem Mag., 200 yards

CZ 527 @ 100 yards

Ven. Mauser 7X57mm, 100 yards

Ruger No. 1A 7X57mm, 100 yards

6mm/284, 100 yards (5 shots)

Ruger M77, 7X57mm, 100 yards

Ruger No. 3, .30/40 Krag, 100 yards

NONE of these rifles had any special treatment to their barrels.....
