Is anyone loading RL-17 in a 7mm with a sporting length barrel and hunting bullet?

No, currently using IMR 4350, IMR 4831 and H380.

Will try out the RL 17 next year though.

Looks very promising.

Which 7mm are you talking about?

7mm WSM?

According to alliant this is being marketed as a short magnum powder....

Personally it seems more like marketing than performance.

But I haven't tried it....

I was gonna try it in my .280Imp since it has about the same capacity as 7mm RSAUM and in a 7mm-08Imp. I use RL-22 and RL-15, respectively, in those currently.

It seems a good choice for 7-08 or 7x57 users but even in the short mags, something a tad slower will often give best results. I don't ue anything faster in my 280 than IMR4831 & nothing faster in the 7remmag than H4831sc.

any for which it is applicable. i am looking to see if there is any trend in people's experience with it vs. its pulbicity. i mentioned the two improved rounds(.280 &7mm-08) above but may also use it in a 7x57mm for silhouette. i have too many projects going, and enough suitable loads, to waste time on a new powder that won't produce.

Is RL 17 even in the stores yet?

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I don;t know what you use in the 280ai now, but IMR7828 is what I use in the 280 & it is about all you can get out of that case w/ that powder. I run 160grNPs @ 2800fps+ in 23"bbl & 140gr @ 3000fps.

RL-22 in the .280Imp. Shooting 140's out of a 25" at a tad under 3200fps. Been working with RL-15 in the 7mm-08Imp but haven't settled on a load. And yes, someone posted info where they bought Fed 215GM's and RL-17 the other day.
