Does anyone have experience with the Double Tap 320 gr. Woodleigh soft point 9.3x62 ammo. They claim 2300 fps in a 24" barrel. I have always used 286 gr. Swift A-Frames in my Mauser 98. This load looks like and even better option for buffalo.

I have not used double tap, but Ive used the 320 gr. bullet on buffalo in my handloads that got me an easy 2375 FPS in a 26 inch barrel, and the same in a 24 inch barrel Its a good bullet IMO..but performs best in a 26 inch barrel with a max load at 2400 FPS depending on the barrel, I was using Lothar Walthar barrels and they get me a little extra. My Douglas barrel gets me about 40 FPS less with any load.

I also like the 300 gr. Swift at 2450 FPS in a 26 inch barrel. I use H414 and RL-15..

I would suggest that you try a max load of RL-17,in both weights. Ive been playing with it and getting about 50 FPS extra over any other powder, not much to some but with these very heavy bullets it doesn't take much to show some advantage in that 50 FPS in say a 30-06 or 270 means zilch, but in a 9.3 or .375 it gives one a slight but better edge.

Thanks Ray. My hunting buddies do reload for me so I could go that route. I love the A-frame bullet. My rifle has a 26 barrel. 2450 fps puts it right behind the 375 H&H. I've been using Federal factory safari ammo with the 270 grain A-Frame and have had great performance. Your handload sounds even better.

i found out that in 320 grains woodleigh the rn penetrated better than my ppsn all for a 9.3x62 in 22 inches barrel.

I found the 320s on Cape Buffalo needed a boost for penetration, and I load them fast in a 26 inch barrel...That said on elk the 320 RN or PP works fine from any angle..The PP has considerable more penetration than the RN, so Ive used the RN in herd hunting and the PP on dagga bulls in small groups. This is how Geoff and I designed Woodleighs to act the bullets to act. He wanted the PP and I wanted the RN and turns out he was correct in that the PP penetrated more on buffalo in Australia, and so did I in Africa when I field tested the bullets in Africa for him..He knew a thing or two that I didn't! of course as he has been making bullets much longer than I! He did however cordially bowed to me a RN and produced both. I really like his bullets, and he sent me about a lifetime of softs and solids for my 9.3x62 and 64 for the conversations with him and testing.. hilbily
