Anyone have any 1st hand experience with one of these? I got one about 6 weeks ago and have finally gotten around to some shooting with it and find the trigger really, really heavy and with creep in it and it sure isn't helping group size at this point. I'm thinking of getting it to my gunsmith and see about have trigger work done to lighten it up or get a new trigger installed if possible and not to costly. Other than the trigger I like the gun so far. Tell me what you all think. Willi

My best friend bought one in 270 win. Trigger pull on his was terrible. He has had it worked and it is still very heavy to my thinking. It is 5.5 pounds after working it. There are no aftermarket triggers for it. Mossburg also uses a rivet on the housing that must be removed and then replaced to actually sone the engagements. So, all in all it is very difficult to work on. Good luck getting a good trigger.

thanks buckeye, tho sure hope it won't be as bad as you describe, goes to the smith on Wed for a look see. Guess I should have stuck with the rifles I like best instead of buying this one. live and learn huh? Did read that Mossberg is/has done some new design work for the triggers in these, don't know if this can be retofitted but another option I can check.

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com...wthread.php?t=294301 The post refers to a 100ATR with less than a box of ammo through it and the bolt body slid off the bolt hand and shroud assembly. It is not threaded. The bolt body is splined but the bolt handle collar and shroud are not, just pressed together, result is that you lift the handle, pull the bolt handle off along with the shround, pin and spring leaving the bolt body and bolt head locked in battery.... I was thinking about one of these but it seems the Stevens 200 and Marlin xl-7 are a better option perhaps. Unless this was a defect?

There has been some chat about Mossberg ATR bolts blowing back and more. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/...87116/page/0/fpart/1 http://www.24hourcampfire.com/...30486/page/0/fpart/1 Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says. When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like! Do that with your optics.

YIKES! Man S&W just issued a recall for a similar situation on their el-cheapo I-bolts as well. I have also heard they Moss 100's are very accruate, but so are the Marlin's, but no reports of failures from the Marlin yet. Still for a very cheap rifle, Stevens 200 wins hands down. Lots of aftermarket parts available, including easy to swap barrels (its just the old pre-accutrigger Savage 110) If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Looks like Mossberg has a problem on their hands with a design failure. I would advise friends and relatives to keep the ATR locked up and call Mossberg. They have at least 3 severe injuries. -------------------------------------------- James Monette lost 'practical use of his hand' when weapon misfired COEUR d'ALENE -- A Coeur d'Alene man is suing a rifle-making company and Wal-Mart after a gun he bought at the store in Post Falls allegedly exploded, permanently injuring his hand. James Monette bought the Mossberg 100 ATR 30-06 Springfield hunting rifle as a Christmas present for his son in 2005, according to court documents. While elk hunting in October 2006, Monette was handing the rifle to his son when "it misfired and the bolt action exploded sending parts (including the rifle's bolt) and fragments into Monette's right hand causing severe injuries ..." according to the complaint filed in district court Oct. 21. ----------------------------------------------- The sharks are in the water: This from a Tampa attorney My client was injured when his 9 day old Mossberg 100 ATR exploded essentially blowing his face off. Another individual in Louisiana was injured when he shot his 14 day old Mossberg 100 ATR, again essentially blowing his face off. Carolyn Tampa, Florida U.S.A.
