I've never shot a deer with a .270 but I think it is entirely adequete IF you use a premium bullet costing at least a buck a pop and you get really close. Aim for the exit hole

270 Win is superb for deer. 270 was the first centerfire rifle I ever shot, was the caliber that I shot my first deer with, and was the caliber of the first rifle I ever purchased. I've used it for more than 100 whitetail plus mule deer, antelope, red deer, tahr, chamois, and elk. I'll shoot 10 to 15 deer with a 270 this fall and winter. I've bought "better" deer killers (300WM, 300WSM, 308, 30-06, etc), but when I go into the field this year, it will be with that first 270 that I bought more than 20 years ago. Will J. Fascinating story. Sounds near identical to mine but I've not been out of N.A. to hunt. I grew up in Huntsville. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

I'm right up the road in Scottsboro and have been for 24 of my 36 years. Amazing that we were not issued the obligatory Marlin 30-30, "The Official Alabama Deer Rifle" when we turned 16. Will J. Parks, III

I saw people shooting the dirty-thirty before I was a rifle owner. I made a note to self: "do not buy a lever gun 30-30 for deer. Buy a real rifle." Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns
