I picked this up recently and have never seen another one like it. The seller said it was a factory late 70's push feed police issued sniper rifle. Blind mag, factory walnut stock, 22" #3 barrel floated and factory bedded. Parkerized finish. Nice little rifle. Has anyone ever seen one like it? I have searched the internet and it appears to be a non-catalogued item. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I remember seeing them listed in Gun Digest from the late 1970s, and being interested with them. My brother bought a similar-era Winchester m70 in 222 Remington back in 1979. It was/ is (he still has it) a model 70a. Standard weight barrel with sights. Push feed. Nice walnut and metal work, with smooth action. Shoots about 0.75 moa. Wears a 6x Bushnell Scopechief scope. This was not a “low-quality post ‘64 action” oft read about. It was VERY well-made. Winchester started to get their act/quality together in the late 1970’s. It has an internal / blind magazine (no floorplate). It was Winchester's version of the Remington 700 ADL His had a glossy/semi-gloss finish, not oiled like yours. Very tight/precise small action. Working the action (and shooting it) brings a smile to your face. When I would look up his rifle in Gun Digest, I remember coming across your Win m70a police version, and being intrigued in it. I've never seen a police version model 70a in person. I've never come across another Winchester model 70a in 222 Remember either. Must've been some oddball configurations. My brother loves his 222 Remington chambered m70a. It's his favorite woodchuck rifle. Hopes yours is as nice as his. Nice get. -------------------------------------------------------- Behavior accepted, is behavior repeated.

Thanks nugman, Yes it is a Model 70A Police. I didn't know such existed but now I do. Short lived version available in either 30-06 or 308 Win. Oil finished stock. Supposed to be built in 1980-83 even though this serial number is from 1976. Havent shot it yet but will once hunting season winds down Thanks again
