Seems as though it's been out for a while now. Anyone here with first hand experience? I haven't seen one yet so I was hoping to get some hands on opinions, preferably from those that have shot/hunted with one. I'm considering one in 7mm Rem..

Thanks beer

I've seen several. I would take my money and buy a used MKX (or even a Daly)before a 798 and have a far better rifle and have money left over to use towards a scope if it didn't already have one included.

As usual just my $.02

I handled a couple 798s and a 799 when they first came out. The 799 action was not very smooth at all. The 798s were a little better. Wood to metal fit was nothing to write home about either. Handled a new 375 and a 458 this winter and both were much better than the original ones I had handled. If I was in the market for one ,I would want to make it clear to the dealer that the action had to be smooth and the wood to metal fit decent or he could keep the rifle.

I see that Remington has two new models of the 798, one is synthetic stocked 798 SPS the other is the 798 Safari model which is the one that Boddington reviewed.
The Safari looks to be a much smoother/reworked version of the basic 798, comes in.. surprise...375 H&H, and 458 Win mag.

Well all I can say is spend your $$ on a real iron. I purchased a 798 in a 300 winny and of all the shooter I've ever owned it has to be the worst trigger that I've ever pulled. Action is ruff as a corn cob and I cant believe remington would want their name on such a piece. I now found the CZ 550 line. A great 98 for the buck!

Well....a few weeks ago Midway had the action with barrel in a variety of calibers on sale for $400. I got one in 270 will be rebarreled to 35 Whelen with a Shilen barrel. I will be stocking the rifle in a coffee colored laminate stock. I dunno what others experiences are and/or level of expertise, so I will defer to them, but I honestly liked the action alot. So I guess there is one in every crowd.

The barreled action I got is/was made in a European county, but I honestly like it and thought mine was smooth. I will admit that out of the box new it was smoother than the CZ550 I own...that is compared to the beginning, but now my CZ550 is smoother. I dunno if one can beat the set type CZ550 trigger out of the box

I do defer because I didn't play with the trigger at all, but the trigger I saw had a variety of adjustment screws on it. And figure since its a large ring Mauser type action? I am betting someone has a trigger if it gets that bad.

I am like allan c....I also have a CZ550 in 270Win and I like that rifle. In a few weeks I will see how the 798 is as an all around rifle.

Early reports identified the 798 as being of the same source as the MkX/Daly. Are they the same rifle? Apparently the finish is different. Does anyone know the specifics?

They are made in the same plant. I'm sure now to Remington Specs. I prefer the old style MKX with the release in the trigger guard vs the cross pin. I have not owned or shot a 798 but playing with them I find them a lot rougher than the old MKX or even the Daly. Yes with work you can smooth them up. I also don't care for the 798 stock design.
You can pick up a used MKX for under $400 in most calibers I've picked up 3 this last year for closer to $300.

Um, did you ever handle the Spartan line of shotguns with the Remington name on them? That should let you know how low Remington has sunk.
