My Sako was a gift. I have killed groudhogs, deer and crows with the rifle. Usually shoot the Barnes 165 grain X bullets, think they are good for close to 3600 fps out of that rifle. Have a few boxes left, don't know if Barnes still makes the pill. Shoots flat and straight. I have killed elk with a 30-06 using 180 partitions before getting the 338 Lapua. Next time out West I probably take the 350 Remington Magnum. Maybe if I wound a costal groundhog I will take the Lapua into the Alder thicket in pursuit -- whatever. I do like taking it to the range and letting folks shoot all of the full house 250 grainers they want. Never had anyone shoot it more than 2x.

One of the 338 Lapua's designers is a member here - J Tomlinson. Drop Jonathan a PM and you would get all the information that you want.
Also, Dak45056 has a very nice rifle in the caliber that he hunts with. IIRC it was made for him by AHR though I may be wrong here and he would correct me if I am.
Good hunting!

My pleasure. You won't find a more patient and friendly expert here than Jonathan. COnsidering that he is one of the round's inventors as well, he should be able to give you all the information that you need to make your decision.
Best wishes and do post pictures of your rifle here if you get it made.
Good hunting!
