The last Sako rifle I had was in 338 Win mag and it just gave me fits. It never would group like I wanted it to even after pillar bedding and rebarreling. I feel like it was just this particular rifle that was not good.

How are the new Sako rifles? I've been thinking of one in a 270 or 30-06 maybe in stainless. Mine was the older model with the 2 lug bolt.

Thanks,
Terry

I think the 75 is a solid system, and the ones I have shot after a trip to the gunsmith for a little touch up have been great. I really do not like the key safety system in the rear of the bolt. I have shot one in 6,5x 55mm and one in .222 Rem. If I did not have a Blaser that cut ragged holes in .222 Rem at 100m then a stainless 75 in .222 Rem would be in my gunroom tomorrow. For a push feed gun they are miles ahead of the 700 Rem in quality control with the exception of the 40 X series. So I guess I like them

Man that a bummer, if you have pillar bedded, glass bedded, and rebarreled and the groups are still off, its time to get someone else to shoot it. Someone that you see is getting good groups with a simular gun. If his shooting is still bad, then its time to find a new gunsmith or new load. That gun should be shooting with all that work. Everytime I start doubting myself, i get a range officer at my range to take three shots. I have the upmost confidence in his shooting with 300Mags and lower. Several years ago, he is the one who helped with my torquing or flitching. I don't know what I will do if he goes. Its hard to find someone who you have confidence in there shooting.

Thanks for the replys. I had an older 7 mag I bought in 1973. I once shot a one hole group with this rifle with handloads. It was a great rifle that got stolen from me years ago. I have always liked the Sako's until the last one.

Bigcountry, yep it was a bummer. I have quite a few dollars worth of different powder and bullets and different factory loads. I don't think it was the shooter (I don't think [Big Grin] ) because the barrel I had put on it was a little heavier than factory and it really wasn't bad at all on the recoil end. During this time I was shooting a 416Rigby...(1" groups) and 375HH regularly. These I shot well with 4X-5X scopes. I also had my partner shoot it with same results.

I'm just curious if the new Sako's are accurate. As Aleko says they seem to be a quality firearm.

Well, duh (as my teenage daughter says)? You put a REPACEMENT barrel on a SAKO and because it doesn't perform well you wonder whether SAKOS will shoot?

Sako can't be responsible for how a replacement barrel performs on it's action. There are about a jillion variables in a replacement barrel, so I wouldn't draw any inferences to how a Sako rifle performs from your experience.

I've had some Sakos that didn't shoot as well as others (one, in fact, was a .338), but I don't think there's much arguement that they are, on average, among the most accurate rifles in factory form available.

It is real simple...Sako made some models that were better than other models in their line but...they NEVER made a bad one.
If you have gone and jacked with it, put new parts on it...it is not a Sako any longer.
Don't complain.

Stonecreek, Harry,
What is up with you guys? I only bedded and rebarreled after shooting 200-300 rounds through the factory rifle. The rifle did not shoot like I thought it would. I'm not complaining and I don't think Sako is responsible at all for my rebarreling...just wondering about the new Sako 75's... how accurate etc... that's all!! I said in my post that I LIKED Sako rifles and it was just probably my particular rifle that didn't shoot. The rifle was beautiful and the stock fit me just right. So that's why I jacked with it. I really wanted that rifle to shoot. Are you guys Sako reps or what? Sorry I pushed your red button!!!!

Terry P, l use two 75s, one in 270 Win. and one in 222 Rem. The 270 is the stainless synthetic and it is accurate. I bought a new scope for it and once l had it boresighted l shot one of the best 5 shot groups l've ever shot with a 270 at 100 yards. The group measured .595" center to center with handloads.

The second 75 in 222 is the varmint stainless model with laminated stock and this one shoots consistently in the .3's for 5 shots again with handloads. It likes VVN133 powder while the 270 likes H4831.

All that to say that you will not go wrong with the Sako 75 in whatever version you decide to get.

Good luck and let us know how it shoots.

Thanks Chico for the response. That's the rifle I've been looking at...stainless, synthetic. I was just a little concerned because the new ones have the recoil lug that is not built into the action but is seperate (at least this is the way my last one was). Apparently this is not a problem. I think I'll go get one [Big Grin] .
Regards,
Terry
