After a very short wait of 6 months I picked up my gun lincense for it today I'm not joking 6 months is a short time in RSA. Anyway here is the info and pictures. At first I thought of converting it to someone useful or lets say ammunition and brass I could get hold of but after a couple of times looking around on the net and finding more about it and getting a good email by Alf I decided I'm going to keep it as is. Its in very good condition the barrel as well. It came with 15 original kynoch rounds also. The text on the side says "ESPINGARDA PORTUGUEZA 6.5 MOD. 1904." "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN Berlin" Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I've heard that round called the "pencil mauser" because the bullets stick out of the case so far. I found (but didn't buy) a Mauser 98 stutzen in this caliber a few years ago at Cabelas in Sydney Nebraska. It was a beautiful pre-war rifle for only $2000.00. If it had been chambered in a not so obscure catrtidge, I would have bought it. I understand cases are not hard to form, though. Many of those Portuguese Verguero rifles were rebarreled to 8mm. You have a nice find. I'm sure ALF has educated you, as he did me when I came across the above mentioned manlicher style mauser. Matt FISH!! Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984: "Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."
