I run large primmers in all my H4831 loadings. What's the grain equivalent of the scoop? ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

I would reduce by 10% any time you change anything. I don't know for sure what that is in terms of those lee dippers.

Put the dippers aside and get a good powder measure and a powder scale. RCBS is the best in general. Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says. When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like! Do that with your optics.

I really think if loading for magnums you really need to get the best from these large cartridges in terms of accuracy and performance and most magnums give their best accuracy at or near maximum powder charges. I would caution against using dippers, at least get a good powder scale and weight each charge reducing a bit if changing components. The 7mm Rem mag has been known for pressure spikes under some circumstances with certain component combinations.

"Stick" powders are notorious for being inconsistant in how they measure. Dippers are what people used before they had good scales One shot , one kill

Actually, dippers are still widely used. Like using a powder dispencer, your consistency in effort counts for a lot. I watched a bench rest match where a lady used a dipper to ladle powder out of a Tupperware bowl. She struck the dipper off even with a credit card. IIRQ, she placed third in the match. The biggest issue with using dippers, at least in my mind, is that powders vary significantly in density, therefore weight is going to vary with each powder. A full dipper of IMR 3031 is in all likelihood going to weigh differently than the same full dipper of IMR 4320, I suspect. If you find a full powder dipper of a certain powder that shoots well, stay with that powder AND that dipper. The only way to determine what a dipper full of any certain powder is going to weigh is to either use the Lee chart (assuming they provide one...) or as has already been mentioned, get a reliable scale and scale your powder charges.

You probably don't need to change powder charge based on using a Magnum primer. Use caution as suggested by others. My 7mm shoots much better with std large rifle primers

I started with the Lee dipper set an eon ago. I still use them. I'm impressed when I weigh a charge from these simple but effective tools. Lee supplies a very cool slide rule to find your correct scoop to powder type and weight combo ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Just my own opinion that no doubt will piss off many of you 'dippers'. Using a dipper on powder is half assed. I tried 'em, then got a good scale and it shocked me how far the range of wts were. Still have 'em but, would have to dig to find them now. Wish you well, be safe thats the thing! George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!"
