I can not beleive how well this calibre worked on moose. 1 Shot , straight down, this has happened twice , to bad no one else chambers this other then Rem. I think it is the best 30 cal. going. Any thoughts on that? P.S. Mine is chambered in a Sako 75 , AWESOME.

Congratulations on a successful moose hunt. Moose are known for soaking up allot of lead before showing any signs of injury. Naturally a more powerful cartridge will instill confidence and of course a RUM is going to yield impressive results, it's only one of the most powerful cartridges in the world. +1 more on the details, range, bullet, etc... Winchester chambers it and I think Savage does also and I can chamber it in any action that is big enough. It is an awsome cartridge and can be loaded down for practice. I just finished one for a gentleman to use for long range. The .300 RUM is a very accurate cartridge......Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

I have found the 300 RUM to be fantastic on moose also, and caribou, and blackbear. I guess its great for just about any big game. 168gr TSX @ 3270fps, not a hot load but accurate in 10 different 300 RUMS and will shoot thru 5+ feet of moose.

I am sure it worked great, since most moose are successfully taken with much smaller rounds. Personally I like my 375 H&H, but the locals I hunt with use the 7-08, 30-30, 30-06 and a few use their mini 14s. **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

It's just another weatherby, isn't it? If I recall, aren't remingtons rifles freebored for this cartridge, just like a weatherby? Mike73

Back in the day most of us used the old .303, most shots are well within 200 yards anyway, personally I can't understand the need for a RUM cartridge.

A friend I hunted with once hit a moose with a .30-06 and followed it from the waterway into the woods where he finally found it.....smack in the center of the trail looking straight at him. He immediately pulled up his gun and shot it again.....at about 20 yards.... The moose was unimpressed...it stood there glaring at him.....about this time He's about to "brown his pants"....but shoots the moose a third time.....and a fourth time and a fifth.... The moose all this time standing and looking at him (assumedly with an unfriendly look) finally turned around and walked off about two steps.....and fell over..... I'll bet you anything that after the third shot, if he could have, he'd have called in strikes from the USS Wisconsin's 16" guns.... I have never hunted moose....but if the day comes....the 9.3 X 62 comes out of the rack! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Cobra, though I don't personally know anyone who hunts with a 303, the local stores stock ammo for the 303, 6.5x55 and a few other foreign cartridges. You're right, no need for an RUM or most other big boomers, but the 375 is a favorite of mine. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

Vapo, that same thing happens with the big boomers too. Moose are huge and can take a lot of poorly placed lead/copper. Most my native friends make neck/head shots. One buddy of mine put four, 405 gr. slugs from his 45-70 in his fall moose before it gave up the ghost. **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

I don't see the .303 in the bush as much as when I was younger but back then, they were plentiful and cheap. I bought mine for thirty bucks, used it for four years and sold it for thirty bucks. A bigger, slower cartridge such as your .375 or Vapo's 9.3x62 are ideal for moose. My current moose rig is a synthetic 7600 carbine in .30-06 with a 2x7 Burris Timberline.

I have two 9.3x62s that I plan on using for moose during the December hunt, provided I get back to AK in time. I am going to use a 250 gr Barnes X. Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

You dont need to shoot more on a deadly shot moose. Just wait `til it falls it will take about a 20sec to a minute on full lungs. (A eternity with my/your fast heart rate.) Take a cup of coffea. .338 and larger make a more notice able hit but is not needed.
