I can get a new winchester model 70 30-06 in the black shadow model for $300.00. I can use it a couple of years from now to elk hunt with the same guy. It has never even had the bolt in it. And being on a budget, the price only makes it that much more appealing. Should I go ahead and get the rifle?

Younghunter,
The model 70 is a good weapon and the price is good too. If you don't want to own it then list the address here and it will be sold quickly.

YoungHunter: My advice is to buy the rifle. Sounds like a good price for a good weapon. My first centerfire rifle bought some 42 years ago was a 30-06 M-70 which I still have and use.

I just bought a used model 70 classic lt sporter in 30-06, and it was more than $300, or I'd be very interested in it. Around here a new black shadow goese for $450 plus. This sounds like a very good deal. [Smile] And I just bought the classic yesterday [Roll Eyes] In fact I looked for around for a month trying to find a Winchester 30-06 for under $350 and didn't find a one. BUY IT! for that price you should get your money back if you don't want it.

My first HP rifle, a .30/'06, of course, was a lowly Rem. 721. I wish I had had the extra 40 bucks then required to purchase a Model 70 instead!!

Is the Black Shadow a "push feed" action? I think that may be why the price is low. If you are looking for a low cost shooter, this should work well. Also, CRF is not that critical for a 30-06 or a non-DGR. However, I don't think they have as much resale value as a CRF M70. I think the Black Shadow is very comparable to the Remington 700 ADL that WalMart sells for just over $300.00

The Black Shadow is a push-feed action that looks very much like the Rem 700. I had one that I took on trade but never fired it. Those I know who have them compare them favorably to the Rem 700's. I don't consider the CRF to be important except for dangerous game---and then I don't believe it is as important as some claim.

Good Hunting,

My local wal-mart has win model 70 in 30-06 or .270 for 290.00$ or you can have a rem 700 or a savage in 30-06 or .270 for 300$ makes me laugh when i see people wanting $400 for these guns used [Roll Eyes]

The black shadow is a step above the walmart models in that it has the metal hinged floorplate. I think these are excellent rifles, and you won't go wrong for $300. The factory triggers can be adjusted very nicely, and the synthetic stock will work just fine for a hunting rifle. The 3 position safety, and metal floor plate put them about two steps ahead of the remington ADL in my opinion.

Good shooting, Weagle

I bought the model 70 today and really like the way it feels. For now I will use it on those coyotes I hate so much [Mad] , but in a couple of years it will hopefully take an elk for me. Thanks for all the advice I received. [Smile]
