I work at Sportsman's Warehouse in southern Oregon. The Stevens 200s are on sale now for $269, I believe. I keep handling the one in .25-06, as I know what kind of barrel Savage makes.

I've been doing the same to a 7mm-08. Dad isn't having an easy time shooting his .30-06 anymore, a nice lightweight Stevens in a nice low recoil chambering is a perfect combination. Savage makes a decent gun, nothing spectacular fit and finish wise, but real value in terms of accuracy.

Bill where exactly is the Sportsman's Warehouse in southern Oregon, and how does one get to it off of I-5? (I know where the one in Salem is, but the Medford/Talent area is a lot closer to me than that....)

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

Thanks Oddbod -

Which exit does one take to get to that road, and which side of I-5 is it on?

Alberta, you take the first Medford exit off I-5 and turn left, crossing over the freeway as if you were heading to Crater Lake. The store is just past the approach to the airport at Delta Waters and Highway 62. When we open the back door to load somebody up with a big Browning gun safe, we're looking at the runway.

Stevens has a great reputation and there are are stock and trigger upgrades plus do it your self barrel swithches available. A lot of guys will pick up a new or used Stevens to start a custom build.

www.savageshooters.com

It is going to take Mossberg and Marlin time to catch on. I hope they all make it.

I've got a Stevens 200 in 223 that is very accurate. I would rate it a very good buy for the money. Don't know if it is the best but don't see how you could realistically expect more from a rifle under $300.

+1 Stevens 200 in .223. All it needs is a replacement trigger.

Which even I fitted in 15 minutes with NO skills.

Great value and solid as a rock.

Steven's 200 25-06!! It's the best gun out there for the money. There's a very good chance it's going to be accurate too because it's made by savage.

I would want a gun that is ready to go not one that needs a new stock ((upgrade)) or a new trigger ((upgrade)) and should be accurate because of ((Sister Company Name Here)). After I buy this formentioned rifle and throw all this upgrade $$$$$ at it I should have just purchased a better rifle (((insert name brand here)))

The local gun dealer handed me a mossberg with the cammo stock topped with a nikko stirling scope ,he said "take this cheap peice of s--t with you and see what it can do" .bore sighted it and proceeded to sight it in at 100metres first serious group using 150"s had 3 touching and 2 more not far off this was repeated twice.I handed it over to the brat with some 180,s and said show me what you can do with it 10 shots gave 2 groups just over 1 inch.I was very impressed at how accurate this cheapy was so was the gun shop owner when i took it back with the targets.Would i buy 1 myself nah love my Tikkas to much but as a starting rifle for a young bloke i dont think you could go wrong.
