I just got in a set of these bases and rings. Pretty straightforward, but a few wrinkles depending on action size. The detach levers are ok, slightly short, but with a wider 'paddle' then most of the other QD's I've fooled with. There is not a lot of leverage on that short a lever, but enough I suppose, surely if you grip it with a pair of pliars! The rings have a little half round detent in them which the bases engage and pull into position. They seem pretty precise/accurate. Matte finish is standard Leupy matte, just fine. On a short action M-75, the rear base will just slightly overhang the ejection port, maybe 3/32" or so. The bases do have a pin that engages the machined slot in the rear mount, so even with that engaged, it will overhang. The front only will go about 3/16" onto the front base, but I feel that is sufficient for sure. On an 85 action, the rear dovetail is slimmer and shorter than on the comparable action 75, and therefore the overhang would be slightly greater, and I suppose even more so on a short action 85. I think the front dovetails on the 85 are really close to those on the 75, so there shouldn't be an issue on the front base at all, I will have to pull a scope from one of my 85's to see this for sure, which I'll probably do over the weekend. All in all, I think the Leupy QD's are pretty good, certainly a touch easier to install than the Opti's or the Talley's, but I still think I prefer Talley's overall...... Cheers--Don | ||
