Deer: 200 Hornady SP, 60.0/IMR4320, 2705 fps in a 22" barrel
Elk/moose/bear: 250 Hornady SP, 54.0/IMR4320, 2360 fps in a 22" barrel

What animals will you be hunting and what kind of terrain? It makes a big difference whether you are making 300 yard shots on open plains or 50 yard shots through heavy brush and whether the animal is a pronghorn or a grizzly.

I've had good luck with the 225 gr Barnes TSX in the .358 it ought to be a real performer in the .350 mag.

I bought some 200 and 250 gr. hornady sp bullets from midway --just to get started .

I thought of the 350 rem mag , as a close to medium range big game caliber . Out to 200 yrds, deer/bear-200gr. elk/moose-250gr.
moderate fps .

I'd like to try some of those 225 barnes tsx

Interesting finding loads using 357 pistol bullets --as varmint loads--that might be fun !

My rem 700 classic has a long throat. I file the tips off speer 250's to make a "mag tip" and seat them out to full mag box length.
The max load from Lyman book of IMR 4895 gives right at 2600 fps in my rifle. I use that load for everything.

Once upon a time, I had a Remington Model 7 from the Custom Shop with a 20" barrel and the round knob Kevlar stock.

I really liked that rifle, it was very accurate.
It was 100% reliable with factory ammo, but after tha brass was fired and reloaded it had expanded just enough to cause it to pop out of the Mag when feeding from the right side.

I had accumilated several hundred rounds of factory 200 and 250gr Remington factory ammo so a non reloading buddy wanted it badly and I let him have it.
The 350 Rem Mag is a very good cartridge IMHO I killed several deer and a few turkeys with it before I let it go.

I used IMR 3031 for my reloads with 200gr and 250 gr bullets, just because I had a bunch of it on hand. It shot very good to 300 yards, which was as far as I shot it.

There was a big difference in where the 200 vs the 250gr bullets hit. I think if I had a 350 Rem Mag today I would pick a 225 gr deer and pig bullet and a 225 gr elk and bear bullet, that I could get to hit to the same place, to keep life simple.

I replaced the 350 Mag with a short barreled 375 H&H.

Do you do this for max case capacity or are you contacting the lands , for accuracy purposes ?

Iv'e used 225gr bullets a lot in my 338 win mag,
they have taken a lot of game for me , including two moose . I like that bullet weight .

Bearcat I have a 350 Rem built on a 98 mauser action. With the longer action I can seat bullets out a little further. I have had very good results with the 225 sierra bullet on deer. This bullet makes the 350 a serious 300 yd round. For bigger game the 225 TSX bullet is super. This is the bullet I use most of the time. If you like heavier bullets the 250 gr Speer and the 250 gr Hornady spire pt are both good. Several powders work well but IMR 4320 provides the best accuracy and near top velocities with the above mentioned bullets. This round is way more effective on game than paper ballistics may indicate. A 35 cal bullet rips a big hole and lets a LOT of blood out.

I like the way you think , I'm going to order up some 225s--- push em a little and see what they do !

It's a real nice cartridge. It would be nice in a non-lightweight BLR

the 350 Rem Mag is one of my favorites. Used a 700 Classic for years. I used mostly 250 grain Speer RNs in it and 54 grs of IMR 3031. Took it to Africa for plains game with Swift A-Frames and RL-15. This was the best combination I ever used. I'll look up the load for you. One of the all time great mediums that never caught on.

Exactly... For many years American gun companies, and many Outdoor writers have tried to steer American hunters to the "Moderate Mid Bores". Calibres like the 348WCF, 358 Win, 350 Rem Mag, 35 Whelen, 356 Win, 338/06, and the 338 Federal, etc, including the 9,3x57 the 9,3x62, and the 9,3x74R...
These calibres shoot heavy bullets at moderate velocities, with light recoil and kill like the Hammer of Thor.

Out to 250 or even 300 yards with some of them, they are El Primo hunting cartridges...

They just lack the glamour of HIGH Velocity...

tact is your best bet imho. high fps. and outstanding groups! nosler 225 or 250. i horded some bt 250 and they fly flat!

This 350 rem mag , is new to me , it is a Ruger 77 with a faster rate of twist and a longer box magazine . Should be a good combination for handloads .

225 gr. Partitions will do everything you want in the 350 mag.
Varget or A2520 are great powders for that combo.

I have a model 600 and have ordered some 175gr ESP Raptors to try. I hope they are not too long to use with the short mag box. I was hoping to see the Raptor in the 130-140gr weight. I have successfully used Barnes data for loading CEB NonCons in 375H&H and will use starting loads listed for TSX 200gr.

I like TAC, but don't overlook BL-C(2), H322, H335, and Benchmark as they are also fantastic powders for 350mag.

What is your quarry? I pasted a lot of white tails shooting the Hornady 180 grain single shot pistol bullet with 60.5 grains of H4895 per the Hornady manual. Would not use it on anything larger than deer, but oh does it work on deer!

I agree,,,,, the Nosler 225 Partition is a great bullet capable of cleanly taking anything in the US.

I have been shooting the 200gr hornady over a max charge of BL-C(2) as well as the 225gr Sierras. This model 7 is very accurate. I have even shot a few 280gr cast bullets from it with imr4895 and had great accuracy.

I had a Remington Classic that would shoot 225gr Partitions over IMR4320 and a FED 215M under .75MOA with boring regularity.

Excellent advice. A 225 Partition will do all of the above. Personaly I wish Hornady made a 225 gn 358 sp. Nearly any 250 gn slug will suffice for anything in NA.

200 Barnes TSX w/ 64gr of TAC for 2940fps out of my 700 classic. (Barnes says the 225gr may be too long for some mag boxes.)

175 CEB Rapter w/ 64gr of TAC (compressed) for 3035fps. (Going to try some RL-7 and 3031 to see if I can get a bit more velocity.)

I took both loads to Zimbabwe last year. Ended up using just the Raptors. 1 shot kills (dropped in their tracks) on kudu & zebra.

What is this TAC powder , something new ?

I shoot Sierra 225 SBT's over 59gr IMR 4895 thru a 600/700 Classic/700BDL/Seven CDL/XP-100R's for years to harvest moose,caribou,bears & sheep in AK.

Ramshot Tac. From Western Powder Co. It does not have full distribution yet, but the Ramshot powders are gaining ground due to their excellent performance. Tac is THE powder for 35 Whelen and 350 RM. I am getting over 2600 with a 250 gr. bullet in both cartridges. That is the holy grail.

It's a Ramshot ball powder with a similar burn rate to H4895. Since it's ball it packs well in the 350 rem mag. It's also pretty temp stable.

Haven't tried TAC yet, but one of the 4895's and 200 Hornady or 225 Sierras has akways worked amazingly well in my 700 Classic.

What barrel length for the 350 Mag?

My 350 is a Ruger MKII with a 22 in. barrel.

Very cool round! I will be getting my converted Zastava Z98 long action done in 350 RM back from the smith next week. It has a 24" 1-in-12" twist barrel. I plan to load Woodleigh 310gr bullets using Re15. I should be able to get about 2400 fps muzzle velocity and will report back soon on results.

Any caliber that duplicates or actually betters by a tad the great 35 Whelan just has to be goooooood!

I've been using IMR4064 and Win. 748 with 225 gr. Swift A Frames in my .350 Rem Mag for superb accuracy from a 23" 1-12 twist barrel. I load for 2,700 fps and can load up to 3" COL in my Montana Rifleman action with most bullets. I'm going to try Tac powder....it seems to be popular with .350 shooters. At 7 1/4 lbs. incl. scope(and at my advanced age), this is becoming my favorite rifle.

I ran out of TAC before I could use it in my 350RM. Since it's so hard to find right now I have been sticking with BL-C(2). I found some Hornady 180gr single shot pistol bullets a little while ago and just got around to loading some for fun shooting in the 350. Hopefully I will get a chance this weekend to give them a try.

my 600 loves the 225 nosler factory ammo. it kilt tha bar befor it kilt me!

My favourite load for norwegian moose( Elg ) in my 673 is: 225 grs Barnes TSX,62 grs vihtavouri N-540,and CCI 250 primers. Tot.lenth in my rifle:71,5 mm
Slightly compressed.

Apparently that is one of the tougher Sierra bullets made. They give it a thick jacket and a hard 3% Antimony core to handle Whelen or better velocities. I am going to give them a try.

Resurrecting an old thread. Just purchased this .350 Remington Magnum Springfield in an auction. I am waiting to receive it, so you will have to settle for the auction photos. The pad obviously needs replacing, but it should make a fun timber gun for elk and the likes.
