Talley lightweights on Lightweight guns. Talley QD's on everything else but Sako's. Optilocks on Sako's. Talley rings are made far better than most other rings. The QD's will leave ringmarks on top of your scope unless you are very carefull so if you swap rings a lot you might not like them. They are very strong, return to zero, never slip and are the rings of choice for most serious rifles. Their lightweight ringmounts are difficult to improve on for light rifles. Very strong but lightweight. With Sako Optilocks you have to use a properly fitted wrench and tighten carefully but they are very versatile rings that give windage adjustment, return to zero if removed and don't scratch scopes. They are superb rings you just have to use a little care in tightening them. I've had a couple sets that I've swapped out scopes in more than a half dozen time each. It's not rocket science if you do things properly....................DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

i like the butt-ugly plain steel weavers'... loctite them on....you can always use a soldering iron to remove them....i did use the 1-piece redfield, but recoil on my .375 jarred it loose after about 30 shots....now i've got redfield 2 piece for the .338, .375 and .416.... my .264, 300 win mag, and 30-06 have the 2 piece weaver... cheap and effective... go big or go home ........ I started using Talley's several years ago and don't think I will ever use any other brand again. They are IMO the best. In politics as in theology! "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, But the heart of the fool to the left." Ecclesiastes 10:2

I used Conetrol rings on their Custom bases for my Colt\Sauer 25-06Rem. A stylish rifle deserves stylish scope mounts and rings.

http://www.titanium-gunworks.de/pdf/multi_use.pdf this one ... made from Titanium...fits a couple of rifles with just one scope (without adjustment between changes, just first time adjustment) but not working in this style for 25mm rings, just with rails... Klaus

"cheapest..ugliest..hardest.." wow, quite an indictment for something that does the job better or at least as good as any others. I guess if they charged twice the price for a set of rings, you'd think they were great.

I have Weaver Mounts on most of my rifles and a couple Leupole mounts. None have give me any problems. The weaver mounts are sometimes a little hard to get the cross hairs lined up but not that hard.

stillbeeman, you just don't understand. I don't care how good they work, and don't care what they cost - they are the cheapest looking, ugliest, and hardest to align the reticle properly of any scope mount used. Obviously, they work good or there wouldn't be so many people singing their praises. I'm impressed by that, at the same time that I'm amazed. I've been known to exagerate, but I think I'd give up shooting before I'd buy Weavers. Maybe use duct tape to attach my scope. Use iron sights. Vote democratic. No, on second thought - I reached my limit on that one. You know, if you want to save money, buy the dual dovetail Leupolds. They are rock solid and inexpensive. I just don't see any reason to buy a Weaver. Not only that, but I don't like them.

No, I'd never give up shooting. Even if I had to buy a Savage.

I can weigh in on what I've found works the best, and that is Leupold dual dovetails with Burris Signature rings. The DD bases are the strongest you can buy, and the signature rings provide numerous advantages over standard steel rings. I've shot them for years on my 270 (which uses Ruger integral bases - also great), and just installed a set on my 340wby, and both rifles are waaay more accurate than they need to be for hunting purposes. One cosmetic feature I like about the Burris rings is that the synthetic inserts do not mark the scope tube, so if you ever need to sell/trade it, it looks 100% under there. _____________________________________________________ No safe queens!

Yes, the Weavers are ugly, but they work and are solid. Once you mount them a few times and get a sense of how to do it, you can get the crosshairs to end up where they should be. You start with the crosshair slightly canted, so that as you fasten the screws on the rings this pulls the scope around slightly so that the crosshair ends up level. Weavers can also be used as a detachable mount. If you unscrew the transverse screws that hold the rings to the bases, you can remove the scope. When you put it back on it will retain the zero because it's pulled back to exactly the same point it was before. I like the Leupold QR rings and mounts -- the rings have a post that fits into a hole on the base, and the levers in the base pull the ring tightly into the hole. I've used these on rifles as large as a 375 H&H with absolutely no trouble. The mount is attractive, not especially expensive, and it works. "How's that whole 'hopey-changey' thing working out for ya?"

For heavy duty use, I use the leupold mark 4 rings and bases. For rimfires with weaver base and light duty use I have been using the new weaver quad locks. Previously I used the leupold QRW rings and those are very strong but can be a little rough on scope finish.
