Gentlemen, There is hope yet; we may just be in luck. Both the 6.5-06 and the 338-06 were legitimized by A-Square and are both in the "Any Shot You Want" book they sell. (see pages 350 and 443 respectively) Since the time of the book's writing, A-Square it seems has suffered some set backs, pissed off alot of customers, and allegedly ran affoul of the law. As such, many of the calibers they may have legitimized didn't make it into the mainstream - except the 338-06. Weatherby chambers for it and I have personally held a Weatherby 338-06 I ran across at a gunshow and remember reading an article about them in some gunrag I was picking through one evening. What's more, I have a Cabela's catalog that lists 338-06 ammo for sale with the other overpriced Weatherby ammo they offer. So to you guys skeptical of the 6.5-06 and more especially the 338-06, I'd say be hopeful. I know at one least of them is in production. You never know what the bean counters at Big Green will decide... As for the 8mm-06, I doubt it. There's never been much interest in this one; even amongst those particular to such things. Now if I were to somehow shoot the throat out of a factory 8x57 model 700, maybe...but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm with Frank, I'd love to see the 338/06 in the Classic and also in their Mtn rifle. I had a meeting with one of Rem's reps yesterday, he said that he is going to a meeting on Nov 5 and that it should be public after that. Have a great week! "GET TO THE HILL" Dogz

Me thinks the 6.5 Rem Mag will be most likely, and in a long action it may actually be useful. I'd love to see a 358 Norma Magnum or something quirky but useful like.... the 6.5 Carcano. Cheers... Con

Folks, If a Classic cartridge is to be chambered, I think that pretty well rules out all the wildcats. The .284 is long overdue and the .35 Remington or the .358 Winchester would be ideal candidates. I waited for 30 years for the 8x57 to be chambered in a new domestic rifle and got in line early for the 2004 Classic. It is a fine rifle. I owned a 22-250 Clasic back before the model became a platform for a yearly caliber change. It was a fine rifle. We have got to remember that economics plays a part in the caliber of choice..Remington does hope to make a profit and sell off the total production. If you want to go far out in your hopes, ask for a Classic in 7.7 Jap! I'd buy one in a heartbeat as I doubt any rifle has been chambered for the round since the end of WW2. There are no flies in the ointment for that round and it has been totally ignored...such a shame.

tasunkawitko I would have to say the same thing if Remington turned one out in 256 Newton. That would be a classic!! Matter of fact I would stand in a fairly long line to get one, and the Army taught me standing in line is no fun.

9.3x62 Mauser Very little chance of that, I'm sure. But it would make a great companion rifle to this year's Classic in 8x57. .35 Remington would be cool too. -Bob F.
