I bought two Weatherby 338-378 accumarks .I really thing these are the best long range rifles under the 50 bmg which is too heavy to tote.I have shot .25" groups at 100 yards and under an inch at 300 yards with handloads. The brass is super strong.I hope that Weatherby keep chambering it.I do hope one day to have one with a 30" barrel.that adds about 250-300 fps to the 338-378.I think i made a good choice for my long range rifle with these guns.I almost bought a 338 ultra mag sendero but I got both of these at cost .I lucked up on brass and started reloading.I have only bought 1 box of factory ammo.It was a diseaster the 200 gr factory loaded bullets had something wrong with them.It actually sprayed powder on the target.I rolled my own from then on.The brass life is very long for a belted mag case.I hope to have more adventures with this gun.

I have an Accumark in 338-378 and load 250gr Swift A-Frames for it. I have chronoed the loads at 3150mv. I carried it on a brown bear hunt a few years ago. The guide asked me to bring something I could reach out and touch one at 250-300yds if we needed to. I shot a bear that squared 9'2" at 7yds in a thicket.

I have a 30-378 that someday will have the barrel shot out. Would probably like to upgrade to the 338 at that time. Would probably get a custom barrel that would handle the 300 grain sierra long range bullet. A buddy has a custom built from Allan Mags on a 338 lapua. It runs them about 2900. If the computer is right they are still doing about 1900 at 1000 yds.....whooooohooo.
