My new 557 walnut is no exception, very in formal in rough conditions off the hood of my truck she needed 2 shots to verify my bore sight , then the 1st 3 shots a 150 grain sierra flat base over 46 grains of RL 15 into .74 at 110 yards.
It put 5 Barnes 150 grain ttsxs into 1.25 with W748. It was great with a 150 grain hornady too.
I will be investing in a better scope soon !

tj, glad to hear that new rifle is working out for you. I have a 550 in 6.5x55 and it is consistently accurate... Big Grin. I sure like mine...

i bet it is accurate !
The 550s shot great for me too. i had a 7x57 and a .243. i just thought they were too heavy for the amount of power they produced. in the smaller calibers. But i should have kept the 7x57.
Some time late this year we are supposed to see the 557 in the new Nosler calibers.
I need to put a better scope on my .308. probably go with the New Leupold VX freedom 3x9

I have 3, a 527 Prestige in .22 Hornet that's about 20 years old, a 550 Safari American in .375 H&H that has beautiful wood, got lucky with that one, and finally another 527 in 6.5 Grendel .

I have six CZs, all 550s and love them: 505 Gibbs, 9.3x66, (2) 9.3x62s, 30-06, & 6.5x55. Three of them have had the #3 option from Wayne, and the 505 was customized at the CZ shop & Nathan Heineke.

Really great rifles. And the prices were super when I bought them. The two 9.3x62s (one converted to the '66), 30-06 & 6.5x55 were all around $425-$500 each, years ago. The 505 was $1,750 new. Wish I had bought a bunch of them back then... Frowner

I love my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery. The action is so solid, no wobble in the bolt, and after some break in very smooth. At 11.25 lbs, it's still light and lively in my hands. It's also very accurate and not bad to look at.

Chuck

No two wooden stocks can ever be quite the same, and that one is indeed a beauty.

It can be a lottery when ordering factory rifles. My mate bought a Beretta shotgun, middling grade, stock unseen, and somehow scored wood that wouldn't look out of place on a Purdey.

This thing is just great !
At this time i can't do it justice.
The load was a 150 grain Nosler Accubond over 46.5 grains of IMR 4064.
My 1st 3 shots were .74 off the hood of my jeep. Next group was 2 touching, and i pulled one to make 1.5. Third group was just like the 2nd.
i had 5 rounds left. The 1st 4 were a ragged hole at .40 and i pulled the 5th to make it 1.15.
I would take this rifle and load hunting mule deer gladly.
I shot it in my savage 99 and it was about 1.25 to 1.50. I would use that gladly too. The Nosler Book shows 48 grains max, with 4064, i might bump it up for the CZ But that is hot enough for the 60 year old lever gun. ...tj3006

Model 537 came out right before the 550 but wasnt manufactured for very long and then CZ began making the 550 series .... I cant remember the slight differences between the two actions but they were cosmetic and not many. Thats all I know if it helps, all the best

I couldn't resist. My battery consists of 2 Cz 550s in .308. I use them for everything. I have owned well over 50 sporting rifles and have boiled down my entire collection to just these two.

I have found their barrels to be extremely well finished, their inletting superb and I honestly feel the trigger is the finest you can get on a factory rifle. Better than the pre-64s.

The CRF speaks for itself and the square bridge with integral scope bases is the best in the biz. The factory irons are both incredibly useful and attractive. The entire rifle is machined steel. Not MIM, not cast...machined steel. If there is a better rifle i surely don't know what it could be.

I only have one. It's a 550 in 9.3x62 with a Kevlar stock. It is a shooter and is one of my favorites.

I've got a 550 in 375 H&H that shoots cloverleafs at 100 yards with handloads. It shoots as well or better than a rifle that cost me four times as much. So it was with little hesitation that I purchased a Sonoran in 270 which is on closeout. CZ took the last of its 550 standard actions, gave them to the custom shop and screwed on in house barrels and put them in a Manner's carbon fiber stock, pillar and glass bedding it. CZ was asking 3200.00 for it, discontinued the model in 2017 and now you and pick them up for half that if you shop around and don't mind the 26 Nosler. 270 will run you about a hundred bucks more. I'm hoping it shoots as well as its big brother.

The 550 safety is not backwards, you are thinking about a different model CZ.

I would like a .204 Ruger, but the backwards safety has kept me away. I guess if you think about a revolver or a lever gun, you pull them back to fire so maybe everybody else has a backwards safety and CZ got it right.

I shoot Model 70's Mausers, CZ's, and a host of others, never did get confused switching back and forth between safeties.

I like the little 527's a lot. Have more than a few.

I like the 550 Safari for bigger cartridges. I have 550 in 9,3x62 and while it is very accurate, it is just a bit heavy for my tastes.

They were a good value for the money.

You must be thinking about the BRNO.

CZ has a traditionally oriented safety. At least the 550 does.

Send it to Wayne at AHR for some of the more desirable upgrades and you'll get a M-70 type, 3 position safety.

Correct Tod, My 550 7x57 will shoot 1/2" all day with the set trigger and forward safety. Now my Brno's are

opposite. jc
