I finally have my Husqvarna back from the rebore shop. A dream, with scope and sling right at 7 1/2 pounds. Now for the question, W748 works so well in my 375/06 Ackley, has anyone used it in the 9.3x62? Thanks for any data.

I have always used the Norma factory load of N-201. My buddy uses IMR-4895 and gets the same point of impact. My velocity is about 2300fps with a Nosler partition 286gr. Some people think it's not fast enough but it was adequate to kill everything I ever shot with it.
It will go through a wart hog end to end and also a Kudu. That's good enough for me.

WW 748 should be OK for the 250 grain bullets and possibly the 270 grain Speer bullet. I have had the best luck with RL-15 and Ramshot Big Game with the 286 grain bullet. Those are both a bit slower.
Here is a relative burning rate chart:

I have a couple of kegs of WW 748 laying around and gathering dust. I will try some in my 9.3 x 62 in the spring. Thanks for the idea.

The barrel was rebored by Norman Johnson at High Plains Reboring, good jobprice was $230 plus freight. Today went out to the range with a few loads, best group was the 250 Nosler BT with 60gr.H414 and Win. Lrg rifle mag primer it went a little under 3/4", velocity was 2552fps screens 10' from muzzle. Not bad for a random picked load.

I look at the 8mm Mauser, the 338/06, the 35 Whelan as all big .223 family of cartridges....

I shoot the 8mm Mauser and the 338/06....

Any powder that excells in the 223 seems to be excellent in the two above cartridges!

I can just fill my 338/06 to the brim with W 748 and seat a 200 grain bullet and away we go!

No, but I have used H-414 and thats about the same powder with good results...

But bottom line is RL-15 is THE powder for the 9.3x62, nothing else even comes close on the chronograph, nothing!

Just for the record... I think H-414 is about the same powder as W 760, NOT W 748.

W 748 is much closer to Hodgdon BL-C(2), but they are not an exact match.

Using 286 grain Noslers and Lapua brass, 58 grains of Re15 gave me the best all-around load; accuracy and velocity. 4895 came in a close second.

Ray, what is your R-15 load? I worked up a 286gr Partition load with 58gr of R-15 for my CZ 550. Best I could get on the chrony was 2338. My average velocity for 5 rounds was 2329fps.
My best load for my CZ is 65gr of Ramshot BigGame behind a 286gr Partition. This load will shoot one hole groups and has an avg. velocity of 2424fps.
If you haven't tried BigGame in your 9.3, give it a try, you might just beat R-15 in the velocity dept.

Steve,

I shoow the 58.0 gr RL-15 load in my 9,3x62 CZ 550 American w 286 gr Noslers and get 2425 fps. Shoots about 3/4 MOA, and works very, very well on larger game.

Ray's rifle has a 26" bbl if I remember correctly.
