32ACP out of a 300 win

Hey there

Has anyone bought or tried one of those bullet adapters that makes a 300 winchester into a 32ACP. It looks like a cool little toy for my new ruger # 1. But my worry is that I'm going to screw it up. Rabbits and grouse would be a nice little adder if the moose and deer aren't jumping out in front of me on the next hunt.

I have tried them, and they shoot quite well. Performance depends mostly on the 32 ammo you use. Some brands won't fire. You'll have to experiment to find the best ones. Useful range won't be much past 50 yards. They turn your WinMag into a 22LR. I bought 5 of these and usually single feed them gently because I'm concerned about the rough steel edges.

Here's the company I got mine from:

Have fun.

Gonzo, What type of accuracy are you getting at 25 and 50 yards? How far from the full power ammo do they hit? How loud are they. Would they be good for Grouse, Ptarmigan, Rabbits, Squirrel, etc?

It's been a long time since i've shot these, and then only at 50 yards. I recall about 1 - 1.5" at 50. As for rabbits and such, can't really help you. Check with some of the handgunners on hollow vs. FMJ. I assume you get a velocity boost from the much longer barrel so whatever ballistics you get from a 32ACP should be improved.

Sorry i can't be more help, just not familiar with 32ACP.

Thanks for the info. I loaded up some "reduced power" Grouse loads for my wifes 308 with Speer 110gr. Varminter. They were very accurate, but still too powerful. Maybe I should have used the 110gr RN solid[30 carbine] bullet?

So what do you think? There seems to be no one telling me not to do it. I presume that the rifle won't be hurt by it. and it sounds like a nice little addition to a single shot rifle. I'll walk the heavy bush with my Ruger #1 and a 220gr. bullet. If I see something far away I'll slide in a 168gr. and if I'm walking back to camp tired and hungry and a chicken or bunny pops up. "BLAM" I think I'm going to enjoy single shot shooting. Especially with ammo sleeve on the butt and a scope that can be adjusted immediately.

Haven't bought a new rifle in years. Can you tell (haha)

I have had a few of those Marble adapters for a long time. I tried them in 06 and 30/40 and the very weak 32 ACP hit so low that I dropped the idea.

For the non handloader I suppose they are a way out. But reduced loads are a lot of fun and there are so many neat bullets both jacketed and cast.

One box of 32 ACP's and an adapter might be similar to a Lee starting loading kit.
