Sako and Tikka are not the same.
The Tikka is a "little brother" of the legendary Sako. That said, they are a "good" hunting rifle.
And .338 is a wonderful caliber....sakofan..

The Tikka that I had in .338 had one of the best triggers and bolts on a factory rifle. If I buy another rifle I will look at a Tikka first.

Eric

As said previously Tikka & sako are different rifles although they are made in the same factory & share some parts, sako is a very high quality factory rifle & tikka is the lower cost version but still a great quality rifle.

You dont say what model tikka it is,whitetail or the new T3,I have a tikka continental(heavy barrel version of the whitetail)in 7mm-08 & am extremely happy with it in all ways, dont know much about the new T3 but have read good reports on it & think it would be a great rifle too.

It doesn't matter what model tikka it is,buy it as it will be money well spent & you will have one of the best out of the box rifles avaliable.

Tumbo is right.
Even the Tikka is a better "out of the box" rifle than a Rem., Win., or Savage.
IMHO...sakofan.

I have a Whitetail Hunter, blued with synthetic stock in .338. It shoots every load I've tried so far into less than 3/4 of an inch at 100 yards. It shoots 225 gr Barnes X bullets into 1/2 inch or less with either IMR-4350 or RL-22. It is a fine rifle, and I plan to take mine to Africa in 2005. I would like to find the 5-round mags for it.

The quickest way to do it is to call Beretta USA, which imports Tikka and Sako rifles. The only other place you can find them that I know of is Mac Tilton at MT Guns, in California. Even though he builds competition rifles, the Tikka mags fit all models the same.

MT Guns Tikka rifles and accesories

Thanks for the tip on MT rifles - I emailed them, but it look slike they only carry .223 and .308 Tikka rifles, so they not have the mags for my .338 mag. I'll look up Baretta's website and try to contact them. Thanks again.

Mac may be able to get the magazine in whatever caliber you want cheaper than you can from Beretta.

Give him a ring, he's sometimes slow in answering e-mails.

Tika rifles are made in the same bldg. as the Sako's in fact both rifles use the exact same barrels. The sako's have a few more refinements and a higher price tag. Both shoot very well.

I have 4 Tikkas, but none are .338. They are well made, accurate, and excellent value for the money.

I am also interested in the Tikka 338. I do note, however, that it has 2 lugs and a longer bolt throw than the Sako 75s...those 75s are not only accurate, but FAST!

I don't think you could go wrong with a Tikka, I only own one, but it shoots as good as any Rem I own. It's a 22-250 that will shoot .4 inch groups at 100yds and .84 inch groups at 200yds and I am no expert marksmen. I do have several friends having custom rifles made from Tikka actions and they also like them.

I have two stainless synthetic Tikkas, and one of them is a .338 Win mag. I have found these rifles to be accurate, functional, and a good value. However, you have to get over a little bit more plastic than some folks can tolerate to like them. CP.
