I am looking for a replacement stock for a Sako m995 chambered in .340 wby. I called McMillan and they are no longer making that stock. The rep said they can't get trigger guards so they had to dicontinue making it. Any thoughts as to where I can get a replacement stock? I am not interested in a factory stock. Thanks

This stock model is very difficult to find even here in finland. I suppose that you have to buy a blind custom stock and just try to find an another magazine conversion which suits to yours rifle. IMO the original plastic one is a PITA. Mad

BW,

I have a TRG-S in a McM A5.

I was told that the bottom metal was originally made by, or supplied by Serengeti Rifle works of Kalispell Montana. You may try there, but it seems there have been changes there from the website.

Joel Russo (he has a web site and his work is highly recommended by all who try him) will make you any stock style you want for the 995. Send him the old stock and he will inlet as required.

If you can't get bottom metal you may need to try some other bottom metal and a regular box magazine which I'm sure is possible, if more trouble and possibly more costly. If you aren't after the tactical look it's probably better as the TRG-S mag has a bad tendancy to hang low at the back and then not pick up the cartridge when cycling the bolt.

If I can give you a tip, if you restock add a recoil lug of some or other sort, the easiest is probably the Rem 700 "washer style". That groove in te receiver with the molded in little bit of steel in the stock is a loser. Mine shows signs of being hammered (300 Win Mag) and my bedding didn't last. I'm making that change now.

You can get a chassis type stock for a regular TRG why not this one.

Google TRG Chassis. http://www.kineticresearchgroup.com/products/aics.php You can buy the bottom metal from them.

I think it's going to be tough either way.

MOA,

Yes, it can be done. I think you need to buy a TRG trigger (TRG-S differs) and mags.

By the way, last I heard the McM with the bottom metal was on the bad side of $850.

When I did mine that was the only stock I could find (probably 5 or 6 years ago).

The action is great, but I doubt I'd use one again (well for what I was doing). Everything is a low volume special product for that action. Rem and Winnie is plug and play; the 1911's of the rifle world.
