would be easier to do a 300 win mag and 358 norma

Or a 30-06 and 35Whelen. Any combination of the same head will eliminate the need to swap bolt heads as well. I happen to own both a 308&358Norma and love them. However ammo will not be at the local gas station if you forget it. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I'd do a .270 Win and .338-06, same bolt face. .270 is an awesome deer cartridge and has pletny of reach. A .280 would be a great option as well. .338-06 has better bullet options and gives nothing up to the .35 Whelen. I like the Whelen as well and have both it and the .338-06, but I just prefer the .338 caliber. I'd stick with one bolt face as well just keep it simple.

I own a couple of Savage varmint rifles and custom built one of them. Even thought it is clearly possible to have a switch barrel system it does require a bit more work than is practical for a truly switch barrel system, especially for your caliber choices. Captain Finlander

I have a couple of Savages, and I switch the barrels easily as needed... adds a lot of versatility to a rig..
