As reported at 6mm br, Remington has been sold to Cerberus Capital Management. The sale is to be closed June 7th. I for one think this may be an excellent turn of events. The current management has run the company into the ground in so many ways that almost any change will be for the better. Also, this seems to be Cerberus' MO: buy'em and fix'em up. It will be interesting to see how the product line up changes next year or more than likely the second year will show the most.

I hope they do make some changes for the better. Remington was a favored manufacturer of mine, but recently they have left me scrathing my head with some of the decisions they have made. I do not want to see the Model 700 or Remington in general go the way of the Model 70 and Winchester. Best of luck to the new management.

Cerberus appears to be some sort of financial investment firm. My bet would be that they try to do something flahsy for a year or two, then dump it for a profit. INMO, that will NOT be good for any gun company. Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

As far as I'm concerned any change has to be an improvement. The signs of imcompetence was bleeding out all over. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I will be interested in seeing how the ownership changes affect what leaves the factory. Perhaps Remington for some time has 'made shortcuts' to squeeze the bottom line for anticipated sale. That said, seeing what is going on at Smith & Wesson-TC buyout, and the new TC Bolt rifle, Remington will have to continue to improve offerings and quality. Personally I could see some products cut, and others added, while improving quality, or ENSURING quality, as my confidence was so eroded long ago, that I have not spent my hard earned dollars on a Remington firearm in a very long time. I think whatever is done, it needs to be in what happens to the long term loyalty base of customers, as I don't think Remington has realized it has lost many, to competition, just as GM/Ford lost many to the imports. Interesting news to be sure.
