Good Morning all. What rifle will you gents be hunting with this year and and what will you be hunting? Me its obvious, my 7x57 and I will be hunting Gemsbuck, Blue Widebeest and Springbok.
I will also be shooting Springhare by spotlight with my 26yr old .22LR.
Just curious.

HI! wave

I DON'T KNOW! MIGHT BE A 7MM MAG! MIGht - feg it. I hate shouting.

Smiler

Likely my 7mm Mag, but when I go out for Turkey this year I'll bring my .257 Roberts just in case a piggie wanders by...

No Africa this year but I'm hoping to have a 9.3x74r in the safe by then.

Regards,

Robert

I honestly do not know. Depends on what tags I draw and whatever I feel like grabbing when I head out hunting.

For me it will be the 400 Whelen exclusively. I love my old 35 Whelen but the 400 needs some more field time and a few more critters.

This one:

Just a Rem 700 .308. I knocked off the hi-gloss finish with 4/0 steel wool, added the one-piece Talley mounts for the "old school" Lyman 2.5x, and a recently acquired Mod 1907 sling.
I actually bought this LEFT-hand, SA for a conversion project to .250/3000 Savage. Life got in the way and it never happened. In the interim, I killed a couple of deer with it "as-is" which gives it a special place in the collection, AND..my gunsmith died. RIP Joe.
I've gotten to like this little rifle real well for what we have to hunt down here in the SE USA. It will be the first one in the field this coming year.

For SA and Namibia, I'll use a old Post 64 Push feed M 70 300 H&H and Stainless Model 700 Remington 338 Win Mag in Hogue stock.

Probably my trusty Ruger M77, 30-06, it's been my "go to" rifle for 20 years. Or maybe my Ruger Hawkeye 300 WM... or maybe my Ruger African .338 WM ???

However, I bought a cheap Ruger American .243 for my daughter to use this year and even I ended up using it for the entire whitetail deer season. It is a great shooting rifle and we took four bucks with it this year.

Can you tell I like Rugers?

I'll probably try again for whitetail with my .257 Roberts on K98. Never blooded it last year. Frowner That is, of course, unless I happen to pick up a ruger 1 RSI or some similar small to medium bore single shot! Big Grin

I'd also like to get out with a handgun this year dependent on the availability of private land to me.

I have to wait until I've drawn my tags. I always hope for a Desert Sheep tag and a Colorado Moose tag. More than likely I'll end up with a Deer tag, Elk tag and an Antelope tag and maybe a Bear tag. My .257 Roberts takes care of some of the hunts and I need to decide if I should carry a .338 win mag or just my old 30/06 for the rest.
I usually shoot all spring and summer and take what I'm most fond of when fall rolls around.

Depending upon the tags drawn this year, it will likely be my 243 Win, 7mm-08 and 300 WM up to bat. Although, I've got a feeling it will mainly be the 243 this year.

My primary hunting partner & I will be going for either sheep or caribou this year. Also, our annual foray for moose is on the list. For the caribou/sheep, my rifle will most likely be my .270 WSM. For moose, I may still take the WSM but may decide on the .338. Would like to try the WSM on moose tho.

i may work up a load for the new 25-06 if i can figure out a bullet.
otherwise it will be my 7x57 ackley as usual,or the 358 win with cast boolits.
last year it was the 30-30 with cast and the 257 bob that went the most.
year before that it was the 8 mauser with cast and the 7x ackley.

i mostly hunt hunt elk,& black bear, and sometimes deer with the kids.

However I am designating March as the month for Mannlicher Madness..... dancing

So when I go to see if I can't poke some hill country hoglets later this month, I'll take these with me to see what kind of impression they will make.

I'm guessing all I'll be hunting this year will be brown bear and moose therefore the 358 Norma magnum gets the nod. Sheep won't be in the cards this fall as instead of retiring I'm starting another business here on the Lake.

If I draw my usual tags this year in WY and CO, I'll be hunting antelope with a 25.06, deer with a 280 Rem. and elk with either a 338WM or 35 Whelen. Unfortunately, Africa is not in the cards this year. I was hoping to hunt Zambia this year, but we all know how that went down.

Several years ago, I only had a 30-06 so that was what I used. Never a bad choice for most anything. Then I started getting more and more rifles. Because my hunting had pretty much became the whitetails here in Texas, I started using a .243. Works great. Last several years I've seen a fairly large number of deer taken with .223 and .222. These were not AR's and spray and pray deals. They were bolt actions and one shot bang flop deals. Very contrary to what I would have expected. I've seen enough of them that if I shoot another deer I'll probably use my .222 or .223. This can start flames and is not my intent.

Hoping to get out after deer later this year with my 260 Rem built on a ZKK601 action with an ex F-class barrel cut down, rechambered and with the washed out throat removed.

But this is Oz, who knows?

I just picked up a Mauser M03 Arabesque with calibers of 300 Wby up thru 416 Rem. I'm booked for Moose in AK this September, so the 338 WM or 375 Wby will get the nod for that. But I missed Africa for the first time in 11 years last year, so I want to squeeze in a Buff or Tuskless/management Ele between now and September.

GWB, Those are too purty to hunt with!
I'll take whatever jumps out of the safe. Could be 8x57, 30-06, 375, 308(if she lets me borrow it).

Im going to try the 9.3x62 this trip to SA. I have a Ruger African that has some basic work such as Decellerator pad, bedding and trigger work. Looking to take most of my plains game with it. My time tested 338WM will go along as back up rifle.

For local blacktail hunting I will use my M70s in 270 and 358 Win. For hogs it'll be the 358 or 9.3x62.

More than likely it'll be my tikka t3 30-06 but I'm sure I'll get the 375 ruger out a few times.if I draw a tag for elk, moose or grizz than the 375 will be the front runner.

Pretty much the same rifles as last year, but I won't be going to Africa this year.

For elk I'll use my .300 Weatherby, for deer and pronghoron antelope it'l be my .257 AI.

If it's raining or wet on any of those hunts, and I'm dumb enough to be out in that weather, I'll be carrying my stainless 7mm RM that's in a plastic stock.

If I could beat the million to one odds and draw a Montana Bighorn Ram tag, I'd be carrying the .257 AI. A moose or goat tag would bring the .300 Wby out of the safe. It's always nice to dream...

Four shots quick, 1 MOA, top grade illuminated scope, in 300 WinMag (the real one). Will handle anything in Wyoming or, in fact, anything (where allowed) in the lower 48.

Andre,

great "group" of rifles. I'm envious. Big Grin

My k1 stutzen wants to be a k95 when it grows up.

In the mean time, I've got a K1 Stalker in 9.3 x 74r on the way in.
Hope to put it in play in the near future. I've wanted a 74r for some time.

Would love to see some shots of your rifles with game.

Whitetail Deer - Ruger M77 358 Win with Rem 700 25-06 as backup
Elk - CZ 550 9.3x62 or Browning X-Bolt 300 Win Mag depending on the terrain
Hog - 358 Win or 9.3x62 toss up, as both are good for the task.

Hard to say

But come October it'll be my .270 or my old rusty 30-06

Then a month later in Missouri it can be just about anything at the ranges I hunt

No big plans this year.

41 mag revolver will get the nod in October for a black bear with hounds hunt.

Whitetail will probably be a 99m Savage in 308 caliber. I have owned the rifle for several years and really have not hunted with it.
