I originally bought a ruger 300 win mag hawkeye cause ruger was going to stop making them and I wanted a gun to use a a cheap quasi custom build. I left it with my gunsmith and said if he was not busy to bed the rifle. He did like six months later and then I found a Nikon pro staff in one inch from my rimfire rifles. All in all over a year passed and I finally got the ammo to him to sight in the rifle. This was mainly to see if the gun was accurate. Last week I went to pick it up and it shot really well. So I took it hunting as a backup. Yesterday I shot a nice buck with my ruger number 1 30/06. This morining I decided to take the ruger hunting, No luck hunting so I unloaded the gun and rested it on the door to the blind. I had latched the door in place. As I preparing to leave the blind the latch gave way and the gun fell 20 feet to ground, The stock broke in two pieces but everything else seems okay. https://imgur.com/gN8eqt4 https://imgur.com/P258BUr I want to rebuild the rifle. I don't want to do a quasi custom rebuild with a nice wood stock. I rather get a synthetic stock. What should I get ? I think the scope and rifle is reusable. If the gun shoots well after the new stock - I will replace the scope with something better. Thanks in advance for any recommendations on replacement stocks, Mike

Everyone has their own likes/dislikes. I like the McMillan Classic stocks on the Rugers. I do have one of their Hunter stocks on one Ruger, it has a slightly higher comb. I have got on the molded in color kick, and have several for Rugers and Winchesters. Of the molded in colors, I have gravitated to their Dark McWoody coloration. To me, it is a bit more subdued and "classic" than the other various mixtures I have. The molded in colors are slightly heavier than the painted ones. Because of the gel coat, never weighed any of them. It appears to me the gel coated ones deaden sound from bumps and twigs scrapping against them compared to the painted ones. The painted ones have a bit more grip to my hand than the gel coat. I have both styles, and cannot get very worked up as to any advantage of one over the other. I have the graphite cloth added when ordering one. But, have several that I have purchased pre-made without. Cannot say if it is an advantage or not, supposed makes the stock stiffer. I cannot quantify that. Edited to add: Plan on having the McMillan bedded also, if you go that route.

H&S Precision may offer a left hand. My only experience with them is with Winchester right hand versions, no complaints with me on them.

Bell & Carlson used to make a LH Ruger stock, Have converted several RH synthetic stocks to LH. Think MPI makes a LH Ruger stock. MK 2 LH and Hawkeye have same inlet. kk alaska

Call Ruger and try to get their FTW Hunter camo stock. It would be an easy fit. If you want to get by temporarily. Check ebay, there is a LH hawkeye wood stock for $20 plus shipping. The seller does not know whether it is for a short or longer action. Measure your stock screw spacing and email them to confirm.
