Dear Robin:

I had one on a 1908 Brazilian actioned Mauser with a 24 inch Pac Nor barrel that I put together myself. This was before my first chronograph, so I don't have speeds.

It shot well, was accurate under 1" groups, but I did not use it on game.

No pressure issues at all.

Sincerely,

Chris Bemis

You might get a better response in the correct forum, Small Calibers.

I have not owed a 6.5-06, but a good shooting buddy did. His was built on an M700 Sendero and gave very good accuracy. He had replaced a .270 barrel and used the 6.5 on the same game. He said he saw no difference between the two in the field, but then he didn't use 160-grain bullets or try to shoot moose with either barrel.

Practical field accuracy has little to do with the cartridge used, but a lot to do with the quality of the rifle components/assembly and the cartridge components/assembly. Oh yeah, and the ability of the shooter. I doubt most hunters would see a difference in performance or recoil between the .25-06, the 6.5-06 or the .270 for game like deer and antelope with bullets between 120 and 130 grains. So, any of them will work great.
