Neither--.300 win mag out--get 30-06 and if you need more, you need larger bore not faster .30. No smaller listed so what you really need is a .222 or .223.

I don't see much difference between the two options, and neither is much different from what you have. I guess I'd pick the 300, just because I wasn't impressed with my 7mm Rem mag compared to the 30-06's and 270's that I had first.
Either will share bullets and powders you use currently. Throw a dart.
You really do need a 22 caliber centerfire, if you don't have it already. I know, its not what you asked.

I have a few CDL's from 2008/2009 year in lefty. Had the 30-06 turned into a AI off the factory barrel and the 270 is straight factory.
Take out the hump and fully bed. They shoot as good as one could ever ask. 06AI took a bit of playing but the 270 digests it all. 140gr SGK 10 shot groups are .75 and she loves 130 n 140gr AB as well.
Me thinks sometimes you fall into a goodie, well all 5 of my CDL's have been fantastic. But you gotta bed em. Stock wood on the CDL is pretty nice.
I'm also outa the 300 or 7mm camp. I'd go 30-06 if it were my call....but it aint!

+1!
..... and I remain overwhelmingly unimmpressed w/my 7mm Rem Mag. when compared to my .270 Winchester, too.
If the 300 WSM isn't fullfilling your expectations then a 300 Win. Mag. is just gonna be a minor tad bit more of the same.
Personally, gotta agree w/carpetman. Go another direction - .25-06 Remington, .243 Winchester or a .223 Remington. You're sorta flush on the upper end of the big game rifle scale.
If you wanna make a jump then do it right - forego the 300 Win. Mag. and make a move to the 300 Weatherby.
Sorry, I know you want a T-bone & I've offered Pork Chops, just slap me.
seems you already own a fine rifle for deer (7/08), great rifle for elk (300wsm), and all the rifle you'll need for alaska (338), so i would save the cash and put it on a nice guided hunt either out west or in alaska. besides, there isn't a lot of difference between a 7mmremmag and a 300winmag.
but if you just have to buy another file, i'd get the 7mmremmag.
good luck with what ever you decide.

While I like both of them, since you already have a 300WSM which is supposedly the same as a full grown .300WM, I selected the 7RM. The big 7 and a good 160gr bullet is one of those ideal combo's that just get the job done. If I thought I was going to hunt the great bears, I would have opted for the .300.

Uhh,,,errr...ummm, but the .300 WM gives you another 400 yards of range. Let's say you want to take a long range shot at a nice buck at 900 yards? Would you take an 06 or 300 WM?

I voted 7mm rem because youve already got a 300 magnum, youve got everything pretty much covered for big game in North America already, like the others I might suggest going for something smaller for varmints.

The 7 Mag is my "go to" rifle for North American hunting. Can't beat it, especially if you work up 2 loads...one in 140gr and one in 160-175. Antelope to Elk!

I voted 7mm just because I dont care for the case design of the 300 WM. If it was based on the same case as the 7mm then I would say the 300. Dont like the short neck for reloading and the 7mm case has plenty capacity. Otherwise not much difference at all. Great bullet selections and brass availability in either caliber.

I love my 300winmag. Great cartridge and very effective, but with the rifles that you already own, I'd look for a smaller round instead of one right in the middle of your other big game cartridges. 25-06, 6mmrem, 22-250, or even the 6x45 (6mm-.223) if you want something more exotic.
The other option I would look at is a close range thumper carbine, 45-70, 358win,or even a .44mag carbine type of rifle.

Given that you are not looking for a rifle that will give you anything different (hunting wise) from what you already have, I'd go with the .300 WM. It would limit the number of bullet types on your re-loading bench if nothing else and you could have some fun comparing the 2 .300's over a chronograph with different loads.

Well I went to local gun shop just to see when the CDL DM would be in and they said 3-4 months but they showed me a discontinued NEW IN BOX Remington model 700 stainless synthetic Detachable mag in 7mm mag for $475.00 so I laid it away I think I got a good deal

I would pick the .300 winny, it does everything better and with a bigger bullet, is the game calls for that. I have shot and hunted with both extensively. Good shooting.

My dad has the 7 mag and my uncle has the 300, both guns were purchased in the early 60's but after a few years my uncle bought a 7 mag. Now his 300 just sits in the gun case. The moral of the story is this, both guns offer more than enough power and flat trajectory but the 7mm is much more pleasurable to shoot.
Recoils like an 06 but is flatter and hits harder, what more do you need?
