Hello all, long time no see.
Holy cow, 14 years, how about that.

I have an urge to whip up my 8x57 chamber to AI.
I do not need anyone to tell me to do anything else or that it is a waste of time and money.
I just want to see a picture of a loaded cartridge.
Google do not produce a single picture of such.
Closest thing is a drawing of a chamber reamer from 4D reamer rentals.
If anyone can procuce one, or point me in a direction towards sutch a picture, I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Bent,

Do you know what the expected velocity gain might be going to 8x57 AI?

Cartridges of the World states you get around a 100 fps improvement for any load.

Hey Mark! Probably not a lot but the 57 has a narrower shoulder than the 06, so the gain should actually be more than for the 06 AI.
Velocity is not my main driver, I am one of those nerds who like forms and shapes. I would like less body taper and more shoulder. I might design a custom reamer just for fun to get the exact shape I want - I would prefer 30 degree shoulder in stead of Ackleys 40.

Cheers, Bent

Sorry, that completely escaped my optical sensor array on my initial scan.

I don't think there is one.
there is 5 different versions of the 7x57.
plus the ICL which is what I went with.

the 8 mauser already will push a 150gr. bullet to 3,000 fps without any improvement.
that matches the 8mm-06 which is about what your 10% case gain would give you.

anyway if was gonna go down the road of having Manson make me a reamer I'd blow out the case walls, and put whatever shoulder shape I wanted on the end of it, retaining the neck length as is.
it'll be $300+ either way.

I could make that chamber this morning; cut it with my 280 AI reamer, then go in and cut the neck with the standard 8x57, which will also cut the base end to size. Easy. No special reamer needed.
Come on over; I'll even give you a barrel. From a VZ24 or something .
Norway is right next to Cedar Rapids.
