I don't know why The Hodgdon website no longer lists H380 for any loads in the 8mm but my hodgdon book recommends these maximums: 125gr bullet, 55.0; 150gr bullet, 54.0; 170gr bullet, 49.0; 225gr bullet,46.0 You should reduce these by 10% to start and work up from that. As always don't exceed maximums. I see that Steve's pages are still well over the maximum listed loads - 10% in this case. Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

Speer shows a max. for their 200 grain bullet of 52grains w/ a magnum primer at 2469 fps. roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Data from Nick Harveys Practical Reloading Manual states that H380 isn;t the ideal powder in an 8x57, in fact its not a recommended powder... Harvey shows: 150 gr. bullet....51 grs. of IMR-4064 for 2920 175 gr bullet....52 grs. of IMR-4320 for 2800 200 gr. bullet....51 grs. of IMR-4350 2350 FPS 200 gr. bullet....57 grs. of H4831 2350 FPS Cut back 10% on the listed powder charges and work up and be sure you have a good mod. 98 Mauser.. I have used the H4831 load and it gives high velocity and very low pressure..its been my choice with 200 gr. bullets. Usable, yes. Suitable, something you'll have to decide. I have used data from: http://stevespages.com/323_9.html

Hodgdon Data Manuel N0. 25 fifth printing 1989 150 grain bullet Start 49.5 max load 54 grains 2778fps 170 grain bullet Start 45.0 max load 49 grains 2509fps 225 grain bullet Start 42.5 max load 46 grains 2285fps These loads are on pp. 264 and 265 I've got a can, and never tried it in my old cannon. It is a BYF98 I got in about 1963 or 64. It wears a Herters stock and a Weaver 1 - 4.5 power scope from that vintage. Good luck, and have fun. It has a black cover. It probably cab be located at a gun show in someone's old stuff. We old guy's have old stuff.

I have used it and chronographed it and I have never been able to get some of the velocity the books quote..I think some reloading books are just put together from other reloading books.. The best velocity and accuracy I have ever gotten in the 7x57 and 8x57 has been H414 hands down..My old 4831 worked well enough but not as good as H414..My 8x57 and 7x57 both are Brno mod 21s and both have the typical Brno long 30-06 magazine and long throated matching chamber so they can compete quite easily with a 8mm/06 or a 280 Rem..
