As I have been informed that I MUST use factory ammunition on my outing for deer, in my 23" barrel BRNO ZKK .270" I am looking at using Hornady as I usually reload with the 140 grain Interlock. The choices I have in Hornady facory cartridges are limited. I WON'T use 130 grain, so am limited to 140 grain SST or 140 grain Light Magnum with 140 grain Interlock. Will I notice an appreciable differnce in zero? It is bad enough having to spend money on factory cartridges...and then having to fire them off just to re-zero! Also I have no experience of the 140 grain SST or the .270 "Light Magunum" load with 140 grain Interlock. What can I expect? Which would be a better choice?

Reading previous postings on the Hornady SST vs Interlock is causing worry! That with my relatively long barrel, 23", and close 75 yard shots it might not be a suitable bullet? And ruin the maet or case jacket fragments that might injure me when dressing out the carcass. Also I have not seen any assessment of the 270 Light Magnum vs the regular 270 load with the SST. ALSO are LIGHT MAGNUM cases reloadable as usual cases?

Hi Enfieldspares, The Hornady light magnum and heavy magnum loads are just loaded a bit hotter than normal. I think they use some special formulation of powder that enables them to get better velocity than you could otherwise achieve using powders that are available to handloaders. You really need to check it out in your rifle. In my 338 I found the Hornady heavy magnum load to be a bit too hot. It achieved 2920fps (This is with a 225gn bullet, and is at least 100fps better than I can get with my own handloads), however I found the bolt lift a bit stiff for my liking. If you are prepared to try some before you hunt, to see how they work, then go ahead. If you don't want to take the chance that they may not suit your rifle, then just stick with the standard loadings. I have not used the SST in 270, so I can't comment on how they will perfom. However I like them in 225gn in my 338 Win Mag.
