I was reading up on the 765 and read that the 765 was like a 308 back then. I was looking through reloading books to see velocitys and compare a bit. What are your thoughts about these 2 rounds being comparible.

Ballistically they are close to identical. The slightly larger case capacity of the 7.65 Argentine allow it to ballistically match the .308W at 3-5000 less psi. I have several of each and also have done considerable pressure testing with both. Both are very fine cartridges. Larry Gibson

I've used both too, and find now that the 308 has taken over for the 7.65 only because brass is much easier to come by. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

I bought somebody's custom rifle based on a 1909 Peruvian mauser by Oberndorf in 7.65. never shot it until my gunsmith rebarreled it to .308. Paul B.

7.65 Argentine cases are extremely simple to make. Easiest is to use new commercial 8x57 cases (Win or Rem), run them into the FL die, trim to length, load and shoot. Also any '06 case works fine also except there is a lot more trimming needed. Remove decapping stem from 7.65 FL die. Size '06 case in FL die, cut of excess neck with small tube cutter a little longer than required case OAL, put decap/expander back in die, lube inside of necks and run over expander ball, trim to correct OAL, load, shoot. A 8.x57 form/cutoff die is handy to use as any of the '06 length cartridges can then be used. Simply initially form cast in the 8x57 form die, cut off excess neck, FL in 7.65 die, trim, load, shoot.
