Just picked up my new 280 Remington from the gunsmith. Remington 700 BDS SS action, 24" #5 Krieger barrel, JGS minimum chamber reamer, action trued and blueprinted.

I broke it in with a box of factory stuff and then proceeded to load some Ballistic tips, Sierra Matchkings, and some Sierra Gamekings.

All of my handload groups (five shots) have been less than one inch at 100 yards so far with 3 shot clusters tighter than that. I'm really impressed with the accuracy and performance.

I'm using H4350 powder with 140 ballistic tips and H4831 with the 150 Sierras.

I'm getting 2960 fps with 54.0 H4350 and 140 Ballistic Tips. No pressure signs yet, primers still okay, no sticky bolt, no problems noted.

How much faster can I expect out of the 280 with this bullet? I'm still working the load up in increments.

The 140 Nosler Accubond bullet looks identical to the 140 Ballistic tip bullet. Has anyone found that they can be fired interchangably with similar load data as the Ballistic tip? I just picked up a box of the Accubonds and wondered what difference, if any, others have found in accuracy etc. between the two bullets other than the obvious tougher construction of the Accubond bullet.

The rifle will be used for PA whitetails and black bear. Ballistic tips for whitetails and the Accubond for bear. It would be convenient if loads were interchangable and accuracy still similar.

I'd appreciate any tips or comments from any other 280 shooters out there.

Actually you're about at the SAAMI limit there but the 280 will do a bit more.....It wouldn't be a bad thing to stop where you're at as it's a very flat shooting load right now.

You likely can increase that load another 150'/sec if you wish......and think it's worth it.

Try H4831sc under your 140gr. You can easily get to 3050fps from a 24"bbl. I can get there in my 23" PacNor. In my rifle, I get best accuracy & vel. using powders on the slow end. IMR4831 is the fastest powder I have had good results w/ using 140-145gr bullets. H4831sc is even better & RL22 or IMR7828 can be very accurate & good vel. w/ lower pressures than H4350.

Loadtech calls your load 61,100 psi and says 2950FPS 55 grs gives 28=980 @62950 and 56 grs is 3000@ 65000. The 270 is loaded to 65,000 I see no reason you couldn't load to the same level with no problems. I used my BT loads for accubonds and have not trouble.

you might try RE-19 starting at about 55grains and working up to 57 or so. this has been bread and butter for me.

What bounty hunter said. His load is documented in Nosler number 4 57 Gr. of RL19 3150 fps with a 26" barrel. It's right about a the load density I like to see in my loads. I'd go with the Accu-bond or the Interbond.

I've got some RL-19 on hand. I'll give it a try.

140gn ballistic tips and Accubonds shoot equally well in my 7mm WSM with the same powder charge and seating depth .
Both under an inch for 5 shots .
The interbond would want to be better than the 139 gn SST . Most inaccurate projectile I have ever tried in any rifle .

Intersting comment bc. I tried some Hornady 154grIB & can't get them to shoot in my .280 or my 7mmDakota. The NAB seems to be every bit as accurate or more than it's wimpy BT counterpart.
