I made a stand out of square tube to drive into the ground that holds my 12" circle gong. I never ever had a problem with this set up and it is easy to transport. The 338 Laupa shooting the 300 Grain SMK will rotate the tube 90 degrees in the ground when hit at 300 yards. Today I set this up at 600 yards with my 4'X4" foot target board behind the gong to show the bullet location in case of a miss. Muzzle velocity is 2820 fps

Here is a picture of the detachable box magazine that holds 5 rounds

This is a picture of the target at 600 yards on 12 power optical zoom

My shooting bench (tool box on my truck bed)

Results of the first shot

Looks like it takes care of business at distance as well thumb. I trust the rifle is a custom as the detachable mag would indicate? Nice shooting but it looks like you have to "rebuild" after every shot Big Grin Cool.

Yes it is a custom built on a Rem-700 action with a Seekins detatchable box magazine in a Rem senderou stock. The load is 92 grains of H-1000 for 2820 FPS muzzle velocity

I am going to fabricate a hanging stand that can be dissasembled for easy portability

And consequently he's getting in shape dialing in his rifle. Fire, run 600 yards to pick target back up, run 600 yards back to rifle. Fire again, run 600 yards, and repeat........ Big Grin

Yes that is an ABS carbon wrapped barrel. The recoil is very mild due to the efficientce of the muzzle brake

That's the funniest thing I've read in a longtime!

What length barrel? It looks on the shorter side?

Nice scope, too!

I fabricated a new tri-pod target holder and set it at 600 yards. No more getting in shape and shooting at the same time

I also stretched the distance a bit, and fired one round with one hit. The target speaks for it's self

I left the 738 yard impact on the target when I set it out the first shot hit it right of center and high, just like the 738 yards shot. The next shot landed just barley over the target by a very small amount. I printed a drop chart with a .800 BC and it called for .1 Milrad less than when using the Sierra listed BC of .768. I calculated that this would lower the impact 2.5416" at 706. I fired the next round and here is the result

Good job jwp! Looks like the gun is a shooter! Hell, you've only had it for a couple of weeks and it looks like you are getting it dialed in! thumb

I have not shot anything heavier than 250 grains in my lapua. However, none of the loads for that round play well with targets. Barnes X bullets will flat eat through some steel. Leaves damage like a shaped charge. Will have to try the 300 grain SMKs.

Get some targets made out of AR-500 steel, TSX will not chew-up the AR-500. That's what my targets are

The most I can get out of my RUM with the 300gr RN is 2720 FPS with 90 gr of RL25 Never tried the H1000 93.2grs of it.

2720 FPS will certainly work. I am shooting 92 grains of H-1000 as it is a very consistent load, I am sure that their are other powders that will yield more speed. "Speed is fine, but accuracy is final" quote stolen from rimfire

250gr Scenars are not too bad on steel.

The first ime that I chronographed my load the Ohler 35 gave me a velocity of 2820 FPS and my drops were a bit low. I had this 4X6 under the front of the target frame inorder to level it up.
These 3 went into about 3" at 975 yards

The day was very a very bright sunny day that I recorded 2820 FPS, I re-chrono'ed the next time on an overcast day and came up with 2791 FPS and now all is good
