Gentlemen,

What kind of ammo do you use in your Savage Rifles. Do they like heavier or lighter bullets better? Just bought a (10FP Tactical 24" bbl .308) and was wondering which ammo to buy before I head out to the range to try my luck. Since I'm not handloading (yet) I'm gonna purchase a couple of different brands and weights. Maybe you can point me in the right direction. [Confused]

Your help in much appreciated,

LRdrvr

I have the exact same rifle. Mine loves 168gr sierra hollow point match grade bullets over 44gr of IMR4064. Black hills and and Hornady have loaded ammo that is very simular. I would try some of that. I also would be looking at some reloading equipment. You can buy a Lee anniversary reloading kit, a manuel, .308 lee case length cutter and set of Lee collet dies for about $120.

A lot of people popo on Lee products, But you can get started for very little cash and build very high quality ammo with what I mentioned above. Thats how I got started and I still use a lot of the stuff that came with the set. [Wink]

TC1,

thank you for the tip. I just went out and bought some Black Hills 165gr Nosler Bal-Tip and some 168gr BTHP Match ammo.

I was looking at the Lee anniversary kit too. It seems to be the unavoidable next step. When I say "unavoidable" I don't mean that in a bad way. Match ammo is just too pricey at about $1 per round. When the next paycheck comes around I'll venture into the world of reloading. Just started reading about it on the internet... incredible how much good information is floating around out there.
Again, thank you very much for your help. [Smile]
Regards,

No problem, I would suggest the Spear (RCBS) for your 1st reloading manuel. It has one of the best "how to" sections for beginners.
