I got this rifle in a collection of European guns last year and I've been dying to shoot it. My question is can I shoot any 8X57 ammo in it? The rifle is in great condition and has a wonderful feel when you shoulder it. I've even thought about taking it to SA on a pg hunt in '09. I'ts not scoped and has an engraved reciever so taping is out of the question. It will be open sights only. Oh I should say this rifle was built in the 30's on a Mauser 98 action. Thanks

Check bore and groove dias.and get it head spaced roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Made is the '30's is most likely to have a .323 diameter bore, but I'd have is checked out. Does it have any other marks besides 8x57? Is there an 'I' or 'IS' or 'S'? Take it to Africa! You don't need the scope. Here is a thread that I started when I began loading mine. https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3221043/m/405109618 And here is my trip report. https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6321043/m/527102178
