Paul, I really think that a switch to Talley mounts would solve your problem. I've used both their lightweight and QD rings on different Kimbers with Zero problems. I bet you'll start to see how accurate Kimbers can really be after you switch scope mounts......... ........DJ ....Remember that this is all supposed to be for fun!..................

I agree with the recommendation to switch to Talley mounts. I used Talley lightweights on my Kimber .300 WSM after destroying a set of Kimber bases/Burris rings. Upon mounting the Talley's with my reticle centered my rifle required no windage adjustment to zero. This means that the mounts are damn concentric and the scope mounting holes were perfectly in line with the bore and those are two very good things. The Kimber/Talley/Leupold combo worked flawlessly in Africa in June.

I don't see where Talley mounts have any special lock on staying tight. Why should they? I can see no reason in the design or manufacture. In fact the QR Talleys have a quicker thread, like other QR systems, and therefore in theory should come loose faster. The newer aluminum Talleys do elimiate one attachment point. All that said I have had front mount bases come loose on Kimber 84M's and I dislike the old Redfield design Kimber mount bases. I have used both the QR and fixed Talley steel mounts on my Kimbers and still have that mount on the 8400 as I can't find Weaver bases easily. I have two old sets of Weaver style bases made by Warne in service on 84M's but they don't make them anylonger. I find no special appeal to the steel Talley mounts and they cut up scopes worse than any brand I have ever tried. Perhaps the accuracy problems are loose mounts but if so I suggest standard proceedures to keep them tight. Join the NRA

well i did it back up anyway, hasnt come loose after the 21 shots yesterday. after a bit of fouling i did a 3/4inch group at 100, went to 300 and after a bit of raising and lowering to get it on the target i got 3" 2 of the shots being within an inch. i would admit that the group could be a bit better. a can no longer make up rounds at the moment as i thought i had a hold of my neck sizing die but i had the seating die and i accidentally wound it out. anyway someone has borrowed the verniers so im out of luck to do more testing today. maybe ill go get my own mitutoyo ones. savage, i think one the weaver style mounts i used was a remington one but im not completely sure. i could ask the guy who did it for me?

Rest on the base conversion for now but thanks for the tip. I converted some Weavers for the 84M by contouring the base with a round file. That fit ok but the 6-40 holes needed to be opened to #8's and it seems I did not get the counterbore right. In any case my made up bases came loose pretty quick and I have the factory mount bases back on that rifle. Join the NRA

You must mean that the aiming could be better on the 3" group at 300 yards or meters? Join the NRA

thanks I like to think im getting better! I try to do shooting atleast once a week so im in good practice, and practice makes perfect but im still a long way off. im lucky enough to live on a farm, while we are in a windy spot we do get calms days. and we have one flat that is sheltered that is 300M long. to do 400-500 its shooting along a ridge top. and i know a 800 yard place but have to have good conditions to do that, and im pretty sure i wont be any time soon!
