I few years back I ran into fellow that had a 760 for sale.

Not owning a 270 but having a few hundred of rounds of brass laying and a set of dies.

The price was right so it went home with me Mounted on it was a very cheap Simmons scope.

I loaded some rounds sighted it in at 50 yards stuck it away knowing some day I would buy a good scope for it. I did kill a deer with it last fall

Well I finely went and brought a 3x9 Leupold for it mounted it.

I took it out and sighted it in after getting it close and making the final adjustment. I fired the final 4 shot group(it has a 4 shot mag).

I was please it was right on the money right at 1.1 inches at 100 yards plenty good enough to kill all kinds of game.

I believe I'll take it out to300 later today.

The owner of the land I hunted on when I was a lad owned a 760 in .270 Win. At the beginning of each season, we spray painted a black circle about three inches in diameter on an OLD oak an verified our zeros from 100 yds away. His groups always ended up at about an inch. I never saw him miss a deer in all the years we hunted together.

I have two now, a .35 Rem and a .300 Savage. The Rem will throw 200 grain handloads into 1" at 50 yds offhand with the Redfield peep it came with. I haven't had the Savage long enough to find out how well it will shoot yet.

Looking forward to the 300 report.

I have a Rem760 in 30-06. After working the trigger over some I can shoot 3 shot groups you can cover with a quarter. I also shortened the barrel to 18" and recrowned it.
It has taken too many deer to count and a number of other animals.

I worked for a very large sporting goods store many years ago with a huge inventory of used guns. One of my duties was a trip to the range every week or two to function check used guns that had come in to the shop for resale (rough job I know). I test fired probably a dozen 760's while I worked there. Every one of them was surprisingly accurate and often bested their bolt action brothers with factory ammo.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." No surprise to me, I own four of them (7600's). They are the only rifles I own that will never be sold or traded. Cool

I've taken several pronghorn with a Rem. 760 BDL in .270. It's that accurate that it was no handicap on the plains.
