Since I am not up to speed on all the different 700 barrels and stocks I have a question I hope someone here can shed some light on. I have a 700 Classic 250 Savage with the 24" barrel and I want to change the stock. I have found a stock from a 700 Varmint rifle that I am interested in. Does anyone know if the barrels are one in the same or if the varmint barrel contour is larger and would pose a major or a minor fit issue? Or could someone point me in the right direction to find the answer? Thanks Ron53 [ 09-22-2002, 00:15: Message edited by: Ron53 ]

The Varmint barrel would be considerably heavier than your Classic barrel. In the most basic sense, Remington has four barrel contours. The Varmint is biggest at about .850" at the muzzle. The Magnum is next at about .650" at the muzzle and the regular sporter barrel used on non-magnums is about the same at the muzzle but a little trimmer. There is a Mountain rifle barrel also, that is even lighter. There are variations but that ought to point you in the right direction. Joe.

I have a short-action BDL stock that came with a varmint barrel, needs a new home as the rifle is now in another stock. Tom
