Just wondering. mine in 300 win mag doesnt seem to light, and it shoots well. Thinking of getting rid of my Accumark in 300 win and using my ultra light as my main gun. Just wondering how you use yours. Thanks, W.

If I was going to choose a main gun mine would be my ULW in 257 or 300Wby. As it is I use my 240 as my main carry gun deer hunting. All of the Ultra lights I've had and have all shoot very well and carry just as well. They are easily my favorite rifle.

I'm not sure whether I have a "main" rifle, but I'm getting attached to my ultralight. It was originally a .300 Weatherby that didn't overly impress in the accuracy department. I rebarrelled it with a #2 Gaillard barrel (approximately the same contour as a remington magnum)in .300 Win Mag and it transformed into a killing machine that doesn't get or need any babying. Oddly, I'm not even a big Weatherby fan, but the rifle fits and handles so well, and seems to kill everything it is pointed at. It got a couple red stag, boar, blackbuck, sheep, goat, a couple muskox and my son's first moose in its first year of use after the remake. I could probably use it as a main rifle.

Woodsie, I'm not a big Weatherby fan, but in recent years, they've been earning more of my respect. IMO the light AND an Accumark would make a great combination. I'd scope the light with something in the 2-7, 3-9, 4.5-14 range, depending on your general hunting conditions, for a Medium Goto rifle. One the Accumark, I'd mount a 6.5-20 for long range work. That combination would cover a broadrange of hunting scenerios. If they both liked the same load, that would be be another huge bonus.

My .270 UL is now the only hunting rifle I have left. It is very accurate shooting cheap federal 130gr bullets that I can get for $16/box. Where I really notice the weight is on the shoulder. 6-8 mile hikes with light clothing on, the difference in 1 1/2 pounds is noticable on the shoulder

Well finally my Wby Ultralight is my medium game "go to" rifle, but it cost me allot of money and time to get there. After all the gunsmithing tricks and getting rid of the lousey Wby barrel with a new Shilen Match Select barrel and some tuned loads I am getting 1/2" at 200 yards. So, after a couple of grand it is my hands down "go to" rifle. Prayer, planning, preperation, perseverence, proper procedure, and positive attitude, positively prevents poor performance.

It is my go-to deer rifle. .257 Wby Ultra Lightweight. To be honest, I did have some work done to it. Trigger, cerakote, muzzle crown, etc.. But shoots great now, .3" @100yds. When I first got it, it was a 1" rifle.

Many responders seem to have modified theirs. How do they shoot out of the box? Thanks. Mine is right out of the box and is very accurate. I am not a bench shooter and only shoot ~60 rounds per year through it. It consistently shoots 3/4 inch groups off of bags. It also finds the metal plate at 400 yds with ease. I could probably spend a bunch of money modifying it to get to .5 inch groups. Then again I could spend more time at the range and get achieve the same effect.

My 30-06 ULW shoots 3 into a ragged hole at 100 yds w/ my handloads using 168gr Barnes XLC's. I have yet to shoot my 338-06 ULW but I know I can do the same with it as the 30-06. For that one I will use the Barnes 185 and 210 XLC's.

My .300Wby U/L is one of my main rifles... it's enough of a "main" rifle that I'm taking it to Africa on a PG hunt in a few weeks. After adjusting the trigger to 2lb it shot .5" 3 shot groups @ 100m immediately with Barnes TTSX projectiles. So I called that good enough... I have shot rabbit's, dingoes, pigs, deer and wild cattle with it and it has performed perfectly. If a Wby does not perform I'd suggest contacting Weatherby themselves. The U/L is not a budget rifle and it should shoot well out of the box. My hunting mate uses a 300Wby Outfitter (the Wby custom shop U/L) as his go-to gun; he has shot everything Aus has to offer with that rifle, and some of what South Africa has also. He is a better shot than me - and shoots smaller groups off the bench. Great performance.

My ULW in 338-06 is very nice to handle and shoot. I am in the middle of trying different loads for speed and will see about some groups later. If it ends up shooting well then it could easily be my main gun. WOODY Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.
