I am trying to decide between letting my gunsmith rent a reamer (.308 Win w/ .335" neck) @ $50 or just go ahead and buy a new on at about $150. Anyone haveing any expirance or knowledge on this kinda thing please respond I only have a few days to decide. I am not concerned with saving money or even not having a use for the reamer afterwards. I am just concerned with this project being a success, and I guess it would not be a loss if anyone ever needed a reamer I would have it

Thanks,
ED

I had a deal with my old gunsmith, I bought the reamer and he did the chambering job for the reamer. He had done that with several friends, and built up a very nice reamer collection over the years that way. Buy if you think you might ever use the reamer a second time, if not it's a tossup.
I currently have about twenty myself.

It almost never happens......and this special neck reamer is even more unlikely to be used again.....spend the $50 and rent it!

Dunno anything about these guys but I was also searching for a reamer rent place and came across 4D in Wyoming at $25 plus deposit, and Elk Ridge in Idaho I think it was at $26 plus deposit on fixed pilot reamers. Maybe some of the old timers on here will chime in about their experiences with these folks if any. Lemme know if you need web addresses & contact info. Elk Ridge also had some nice looking inletted stocks at decent prices.
Maybe next year I'm gonna think about doing a 300x375Ruger on a M70 SS Classic 300WMg if it looks like the conversion would be worth while and brass is not a killer to come by.

White Rock tool and die in Kansas City is a good place to try, I've also used 4d products, tools were in very good shape from both places.
