After five days of letting the duracoat cure, I finished putting together my Savage 840. I had originally received this as a barreled action from my father in law. It was missing some parts as well as the stock. The barrel had some significant pitting around the rear sight, as well as around the bolt handle. I ordered the necessary parts from Numrich and applied JB weld to fill in the area where it was pitted. I finished sanding the rifle down once the JB cured with some medium grit sand paper. After de-greasing everything down, I parkerized it in zinc phosphate. I let everything dry out for a few hours and finally applied the duracoat using the preval sprayer. It took about 3 light coats, allowing 15 minutes between layers to prevent dripping. I have to say that I am more than happy with the results.

Cool looking finish! What is the caliber and what will it be used for. My family has alot of ole 340s around. Mostly 222s.

It is a 30-30. I have another (340 model) that was my first deer hunting rifle. Right now I will use it mainly for target practice. When my daughter gets old enough it will become her deer hunting rifle.

I took a 340 in 22 hornet cut it down to make a light weight short trapping rifle.

16.25 inch barrel very reshaped stock cut to the bare minimum straight grip large hole cut in to butt stock weigh in under six pounds

Then foolishly sold it to my brother in law.

Different, but I like it.

I have used Dura Coat in the past with excellent results. The folks at Dura Coat told me it takes two to three weeks to cure completly depending on local weather conditions. I put my rifle in the safe for a few weeks when finished, it has held up very good. Your rifle looks great, good job!
