When the time comes, let him try one of the rifles you prefer to use yourself. Ideally, it is a favorite rifle of yours, he has seen you hunting with it, and he can handle shooting it himself. Then, at the right moment, give him THAT rifle. He will always cherish the well used rifle that was one of Dad's favorites and he will keep it to pass on to his son.
