I was in Red'Guns in Pflugerville, Texas (North of Austin Texas) last Thursday and he had this rifle for sale in the second hand rack. It is a 30-06, and looked to be in at least 90% shape, or at least 85%. He wants about $1100. Some of you might be interested.

thats pretty high dollar I think for even a pre war gun...I never cared much for pre war guns as the safty is backwards and not scope friendly at all..The workmanship however was very good indeed...I have bought a number of them for about $600 to $700 in that caliber..Until my last one I had some old safty conversions that replaced the existing safety with M-70 type 3-pos safty...Still I prefer a pre 64 to a pre war gun I think.....

Agree that price seems a bit high. I have a '38 I'd turn loose for much less than that, about $700.

Bob:

If you have an unaltered 1938 Winchester Model 70 in 85% or 90% condition, I will buy it sight unseen, regardless of caliber.

Red's is higher than McBrides. If you are from Austin you will be impressed. I think he might go out of business.
