I'm looking for some loads for 150 grain Noslers and 175 grn. Hornaday Round Nose. Any information with 4064 would be appreciated. Thanks much.

I have a thread posted over on reloading, am getting ready to do some optimum charge weight testing in the 7 x 57, so you can check there also. Maybe one of us will get some hits. In the past I have used W-760 (47-48 grns, HOT) with the 150 NBT with fair results but am looking for something better. BTW, W-760 and H-414 are supposedly the same powder, just different can and lot number... 40.5 of Varget has also been reccommended to me in that bullet weight.

FWIW- 48 to 49 grains of IMR4350 always worked pretty well, with 49gr being about max. Best regards, May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back. P. Mark Stark

For which bullet?? The 150 or the 175?? I'd say 49 would be close to max for the 175-grainer! "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

4064 will certainly work in a 7x57 but is way too fast burning for 175's in it for good velocity. A shot not taken is always a miss

Vapodog, Those are good starting points. Actually again these are really crappy loads for the 7x57, under pressure and conservative designed for 93 and 95 Mausers. In a good mauser 98 or modern action these loads can be significantly improved with careful load development. The 4350 on a 145 grain bullet is at least 2 grains under what can be done on a 150 gr bullet. I HATE FACTORY DATA SHEETS ON THE 7x57 !!!!! They are always about liability not what the round is actually capable off. AA-4350 or IMR 4350 are better powder choices in the 7x57.

schromf, I agree and it was my thought to add a starting point as one must start somewhere....sadly the IMR data doesn't include the 175 grain load nor does Hodgdon or Alliant....maybe they're trying to tell us something... Apparantly they believe the 160 grain is as big as should be used in this cartridge. What you say for the 7 X 57 also applies to data for the 8 X 57 and the 6.5 X 55 and yes...even the .30-06 to a degree. This is a reloading forum however and I do assume we all know this and can work up our own rounds. In fact each of these rounds are capable of nearly equaling the same bullet in the .30-06 case and are truly impressive rounds.....The 7 X 57 should be worked up separately in each gun in order to be the best it can be.... IMO one should use the best performing powder listed in the available data....in this case IMR-4064 for the 160 grain bullet. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Yep, I couldn't agree more. Other powders of note for the 7x57 is RE15 and H414, and like I have said many times before all the published data on the 7x57 is doogy at best. You must work up loads in individual rifles. If I had to pick only one powder for the 7x57 I am partial to 4350 it works fine in heavy bullet loads also, and I see no benefit of 4064 I can just about equal that with 3031 ( which I always have on my bench ).

I load a lot of 4064, as it is one of my favorite powders... I feel I am almost out when I am down to 8 lbs or so in the powder cabinet... However, in the 7 x 57, I have2 Rugers that won't shoot hardly anything with ANY powder.... except....and don't ask me why, because I don't question, what works!..... IMR 3031.... 40 grains..... regardless of bullet weight... from 120 grains to 175 grains....that powder was the most accurate I have tried in those two rifles.... bullets are always seated to magazine length...and the rifles are long throated.... however, numerous people on here have tried it, for problem rifle and it really cleaned up their accuracy... so I am not the only one.... Now I have a Winchester Featherweight in 7 x 57 and that shoots, anything I feed it, like it thinks it is a varmint rifle! cheers seafire

I feel that way about 4350, 3031 and 4831, must have items on the bench. Last week I was in my local Black Sheep and I was a little disappointed in powder selection, lots of powder, none that I was looking for, all out of stock, no Re-19, or Vih powders at all. And I needed to add both to the bench supplies.
