I got to see a new take down design by Justin Sip from Utah. Good design and affordable. I need or I like to have something like a 300 Weatherby and 458 Lott, that would be really usefull.

Justin donated a take down built on a Mauser 1909 action. A good friend bought it at the auction. I had the opportunity to fondle prior to being whisked away for transfer. A fine piece it was. BTW - the calibers were 264 and 338 win mags. He is building a third barrel for 458 win mag...

The new pump action by Krieghoff is also a take down neat rifle.

Do either of you have any pictures or information on this takedown? I would really like to see some pictures.
I was not aware that Justin had a takedown design. From my understanding he is the brother of the owners of MGM barrels and did mostly custom TC wood. The web sight on his business card does not work.
Thanks

James

I handled this gun at Reno SCI last year----cool gun.

I would like to shoot it a bit---has anybody shot the breakdown pump form Krieghoff?

J Bennett - I was the person in charge of handling all firearms during collection and on through the auction and back to point of pick up. I did not get any pictures but the photographer may snapped a few while the "girls" were toting the gun and barrel back forth in front of the crowd. I'll see if I can dig a few up.

A nice touch was the barrel bands for the sling attachments were case hardened.

I, too, was VERY impressed with Justin's work. The take-down design, where the barrel actually screws into the other portion of the rifle, rather than an interrupted thread design, looks like it would be much more durable and accurate than other TD designs out there. A friend is planning a 458 Lott/338 Lapua combination, and I'm interested in having my Dakota African in 338 Lapua made into a takedown rifle. So much easier to travel with a double and a TD bolt rifle these days, without the huge long case than screams FIREARMS ENCLOSED.

You can't post pictures directly from your C: drive. Open an account at www.photobucket.com then upload your photos as instructed then you can post them here.

The first time will be a little confusing but after that, it's a piece of cake.

Also, I want to thank you for the 15 minutes you spent showing your rifles to me and my friend Wink. You have a real talent.

Very nice indeed. What is the basic price range for making a takedown not including extras of course?

Thanks for the pictures. I would like to see some more pictures. Al tho they my be better received in the gunsmithing forum.

Your work looks to be to be very well done with attention to detail (except for the scope ring screw missing in the 375) Wink.
I have several questions if you don't mind. I will only ask a couple now.
One, why do you use a full receiver plate?
Two, you have a cammed cut in the receiver plate for a stop but no stop on the front plate. Is that the purpose of the cammed slot?
Thanks

James

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but I couldn't figure out where the discussion went. It's hard to give a basic price for a custom takedown. It depends on what kind of action you want to use, what grade of wood you want, what kind of barrels you want to use... If you want a basic takedown with a military 98 or Winchester M70 with a Shilen barrel and XX Walnut it would cost you about $6750.00. The options are endless, so if you want a more detailed pricelist you can email me.

As for the full plates, I like the look and the way the lock up works, it is a lot easier. Also, the full plate is a huge recoil lug. The bottom rifle is one of the first takedown rifles that I have built. I have added the the locking cut, but not the stop pin. This is my own rifle, so of course it is the last one that gets worked on. My second generation of plates have a small flat on the bottom. This matches up better with bottom metal and the locking latch. I will get some more pictures up. Unfortunatly it will have to wait until I get back from Reno. I am leaving very early tommorow and I will be back on Sunday night. Looking forward to meeting any of you that will be there.

Thanks Justin

Hello, I'm back from the SCI show in Reno. I would like to thank the SCI for another good show. I would also like to thank those of you that came by my booth and looked at my work. I hope you liked what you saw.

I would be glad to answer any other questions that you might have. Thanks for your interest.
