Dago, let me know, I'll do the piercings at the tatoo parlor. I've had plenty of experience, Lord knows I've done enough of them on myself, the only difference I guess is that most of mine weren't intentional.

[quoteThe Weatherby Vangaurds were $250.00, The Savage 110 Package rifles were $250.00, and that new Mossberg rifle was $244.00. I saw a Mossberg 270 for $249.00 Looks like a good hunt and hang it on the wall rifle.

I totally agree with you Mark. My entire gun habit budget went to this local shop until they really screwed up a project for me, that with some other let downs by them and I decided to walk. Don't get me wrong, they are good guys, but for whatever reason their quality has gone down hill, and they are the only game in town. They let one smith go which really hurt them as well. I really need to open my own place, I always envision a gunshop in the front, maybe a tattoo parlor in back, bar on the side Red PS another local shop you go in and stand at the counter and they'll ignore you forever. but because they are so big, so prominently located, and advertise so much they still get a large amount of business. Half the FFL holders in town just tell people to go look at all the guns there since they stock em and then come back to order them. they charge at least full retail on every single thing they stock.

My philosophy about local businesses, not just gun stores, is that while they may not have much control over prices they do have control over customer service and sincerity. If a business puts forth effort to take care of me as a customer I will support them, and make sure they know it and why. If I stand at a gun counter and a sales person, or any person for that matter, does not even acknowledge my presence while I am waiting I'll go somewhere else. I do not bitch about poor service as much as I thank people for good service, but I get better repeat service for the energy expended that way.

I was at Wall-Mart and they only had the Vangaurd in the .270 Win. on sell but it was only $200. And they just had two. When I left they had two less.

I went by the Southaven, Ms Walmart today and talked to the guy behind the counter. My hope was to buy a one in the a .300WBY They had them but they were $389.00 not $250.00 The guy told me the ones that had been on sale were the .270WBY and the .30-06 the .300WBY wasn't on sale. I told him OK, I'll take one in .30-06 and he said they had all been sold ion both calibers and he'd checked with all the other stores too. Oh well, you win some and ya loose some. They did have the $250.00 Mossberg though. I didn't even ask to look at it. Terry

I was traveling through Mississippi last week and stopped at Wal-mart in a fairly small town. After making my usual trip to the Sporting Goods department, I noticed that they had some excellent deals on a few of thier rifles. The Weatherby Vangaurds were $250.00, The Savage 110 Package rifles were $250.00, and that new Mossberg rifle was $244.00. The Savage and Weatherby rifles were priced great but, I believe "you get what you paid for" really comes true on the Mossberg. I asked a clerk at a different WM to show me the Mossberg and it was a very cheap looking setup, the action was rough and the safety and trigger were pretty shabby looking too. Heck, we can tell from the Savage rifles that looks aren't everything, that Mossberg might be a "Tack Driver." If any of y'all are looking for a good deal, you might want to see what the local Wal-Marts have in the rifle bin. Good Luck! Reloader

Only one of our local Wally Worlds had the Vanguards for $250. One of my co-workers bought 2 of them to use for trading fodder Friday night. I have zero interest in a .270, '06 or 7 Mag but I started to buy one for the action and send it to Shaw to be rebarrelled in some wild assed cartridge but I've got too many gun projects going as it is. I did pass the info along to a couple of guys who bought one just for a spare.

Yeah, California Wal-Marts don't sell firearms, apparently because they were waiting ten days for the 'cool-off' period, and not the 12 day waiting period that most commercial places follow. Basically your waiting period doesn't start till the next day, and it goes until midnight of the last day. I am pretty glad they stopped though, remember, when you buy from Wal-Mart, your local gun-mongers might go hungry So always support your local guys and gals first! But then again I would be hard pressed to pass up on a Vanguard or Savage for that price...!

of the walmarts I checked, only one has a vanguard for 299, in 7mag. At least 3 others have no sale guns at all.

I saw a Vanguard in 300 WEatherby here before they stopped selling them. I agree to a point about the local shop, as long as the local shop can take care of you. my local shop used to take care of me I thought, but maybe it was after their move that things changed, but their prices aren't great and their gunsmithing has gone to the crapper. I dont' buy anything from them anymore (there are a couple of other shops, the biggest one is all crooks, highest markups I have ever heard of, and haven't gone to the other ones to check them out). the 300 weatherby would be a great go to gun for that price. buy it, get a box, sight it in, and then just hunt with it. make it a cab gun if you want for that price.
