Dr. LouYou lucky SOB, I can never find a 99 or 88 in 358. How much did you give for it? Ususally anything in 358 will run between $1,000 and $2,000. Actually I did find an 88 at a gun show but the owner wanted $2,500 and he wasn't coming down. Lou

Savage99Factory 358 Wins were always hard to find. Today with the internet it's easier.
I got my first one in 1966 and paid $67 for it and that was my main gun for many decades. I still have it and it's ready to hunt. Run an inflation calculator on old numbers before you get bent out of shape.
Later in the 80's my kid wanted a 358 too so I found one in The Gun List for $350. I would say the year was about 1987. The seller said it slung the bullets all over and that was not true. Its quite an accurate 99F and I shot my second biggest buck with it.
I have seen 358's in the shops in CT quite often. Last time that I was in The Armoury in New Preston they had one in a 99, The Autumn Gunworks in Goshen had a M70 Featherweight last year and Lymans in Middlefield had a 88 that was really nice two years ago. That one was priced way up there at around $1500 but it was a sweet pre 64 and looked almost new.
You could write a letter to every gunshop in this area asking for a call if they know of a 358. Many times they know who has one and you might shake it loose.

BFaucetttr 405,
An article that you may enjoy.
The Great .358This heavyweight member of the .308 family hits like a truck
and shoots flat enough for most real-world hunting situations.

Yea, its good Ammo.. I reccomend keeping your brass even if you dont reload. IMHO everyone who owns a 358 should roll their own as finding factory ammo can be a real challenge.
Those 250's will take anything on the NA continent. I prefer something a bit lighter for most hunting. 225's are great Elk medicine.

weagleCongrats on an excellent deal and a great rifle. You did especially well considering the ammo is probably worth $35 a box or more. Winchester only runs seasonal runs of the .358 and only with the 200 grain silvertips so the 250's are hard to come by in factory ammo.
